Greetings,

Just to make sure, it is the first time I'll reload that caliber.

44 magnum with H110: Is it large Magnum primer?

Thank you

Most folks use Mag primers with H110 and W296. Winchester specifically recommends mag primers with W296. Speer manual #11 & #13 does as well.

When I used W296 I used Fed mag primers. I use AA #9 now and use Winchester WLP primers for it. Those primers are considered a bit hotter than most non mag primers and Winchester says they are for standard or mag loads. They work well with AA #9, but that powder is easier to ignite than W296 or H110.

Every load manual I have says to use Lg Pistol Mag primers when using H110/W296.

But, as Walkalong says, WLP primers are hotter than regular LP primers and I have used these instead of mag primers.

rcmodel is right...weather/climate is a big factor with powder ignition.

you can always cover yourself and just use WLP's...I did when I loaded 44 Mag.

I've had best results using magnum primers anytime I load with either Winchester 296 or Hodgdon H-110 in any of the magnum pistol calibers, whether it's .357, .41 or .44.

Hope this helps.

You don't need a magnum primer just because the cartridge has 'magnum' in its name. Magnum primers burn a bit hotter for a bit longer and are for lighting hard to ignite powders and cold weather shooting.
Unless your manual says to use 'em, you don't need 'em.
