After much agonizing for quite some time I choose to buy a Sturdy Gun Safe # 3627 (With the 5 Gauge body upgrade). I looked at numerous options including the Amsec, which got serious consideration. The "B Rated Safe" at Franks site got a good hard look as well. There are other good gun "safes" out there not even mentioned here. The bottom line (IMHO only) is I thought the Sturdy was a lot of bang for the buck and tough enough for my needs. Yes, dollars were considered as well. This old boy ain't rich ya know. I would have liked one 36X27X66 instead of 60, but they did not offer one. Probably would have built it for me if I had asked.

This thread is not for any "this one is better than that one" debate.

It is simple to say how pleased I am with my Sturdy safe. Alyssa was a pleasure to deal with and everything went exactly as she said it would. (Time frame, shipping, etc)

My two (sizable) nephews and I just rolled it into place a little while ago. We took the door off to bring it inside and place it, and then re-installed the door. At around 1000/1100 pounds it was relatively easy to deal with using rollers and having the door off. (And cardboard on the floor to keep me in good graces with the wife)

As advertised the door is a very tight recessed fit and would be very difficult to pry on. This gun safe should thwart any but a well prepared thief.

Wow awesome safe Walkalong!! I so want to pull the trigger and try to get one with 5ga while it's still available as you have done.

From the research I've done, no one can pry that safe open. That door frame is a beast. Congrats, I'm so envious.

Congrats, nice safe. I will say I thoroughly enjoyed watching all of Sturdy's videos though I am a skeptic and think all companies will put the best spin on their product possible, I still think they make a decent product.

Just to chime in on the Sturdy Safe Company... I bought a model 3627 over the holidays and was very pleased with the quick shipping, customer service, and ultimately the product itself. I too had looked at many other safes at comparable prices but settled on Sturdy. I have no regrets. These Safes live up to their name... Sturdy.

Just wanted to say that I purchased the 2723 Sturdy Safe. 7 Gauge Steel and very well made. Sturdy's customer service was excellent and shipping was fast. I spoke with Terry's daughter Alyssa and she was very nice and answered all my questions. I live in Florida and received the safe in 5 days in good condition. This safe is solid and a great value. If I ever need another one, I will not hesitate to get another Sturdy.

I built some shelves for the Sturdy with some scrap modular furniture from work. I got the shelf brackets & strips from some cabinets that were being tossed. I spaced the places for the long guns pretty generously, but even AR's with a mag and a forward grip will fit easily. The guns stagger in between each other with enough clearance they don't hit. I can get to one on the back row by moving only two others. My Mini-14 with a 20 round mag will fit on the front row. There is room in front of the small shelves to lean a long gun against the right side of the safe. That is where my pistol grip pump shot gun is.

I did, but I wanted a little different set up than they offered, plus what I built is much more "sturdy" compared to the set up that came with it.

Bottom line is I am a picky [redacted] and like making things myself.

I'm not knocking their product, but any time someone mentions Sturdy, a bunch of fanboys jump on and exclaim that they all bought a Sturdy and that Sturdy has a great reputation. As near as I can figure, that reputation is based on a bunch of people self-assuring each other that they made a good decision. I've never seen any report of a sturdy actually foiling a burglary or protecting against a fire. Alternatively, I've never never seen a report of a Sturdy being broken in to or destroyed in a fire. The only thing I've seen has been a bunch of guys touting a product that they are proud that they purchased.

I'm not saying that they should stop, just be aware that a bunch of people saying that they are happy they bought something doesn't equate to the item performing.

Sturdy is still just an RSC. It's not junk, but it's not a safe, either.

There are formal tests for fire resistance. Anyone interested in demonstrated fire protection would be well served to become educated in those tests, and to then seek out those offerings that have been subjected and passed those tests. Anything less than a formal test certified by an independent test entity is simply anecdotal in nature.

That's not a poke at any RSC manufacturer, because AFAIK they ALL offer anecdotal claims for varying degrees of fire protection. We just need to keep those claims in context, namely that they are anecdotal and not empirical.

Technically, they are not. The same is also true for most competing products marketed as gun safes. That doesn't make them BAD - it simply classifies them according to validated protection that they provide.

With all due respect to everyone involved - we are not going to turn this into another 'Sturdy vs. the world' thread. There are those that like Sturdy products and business practices, and there are those that react negatively to same. We are not likely to change that here, and debating it out has become quite wearisome over the last eighteen months.

Let me be perfectly clear on a very important point - anyone caught coming here with an intent to specifically and solely shill for any manufacturer or vendor will be shown the door, without exception or favoritism. Advertising belongs in banner ads, not in discussion threads.

Dang Walkalong. You sure know how to drag your feet! I started looking for another safe back when you did, and I got the same safe you did, but I got mine last summer! It is a fantastic product. Terry even offered to fabricate a custom rack to my specifications because I also wanted something just outside of their available options. I also thought about making my own interior furniture, being a woodsmith and all, but their stuff actually turned out quite impressive. I also like the fixed bolts on the hinge side of the door. And the door iteself, holy smokes, that's what I call a custom fit!

The only thing to think about though, is where will Sturdy Safe Company be once the old man heads off to the hereafter. I hope Alyssa can keep the plant open after her Pops retires. Not that I think any of us will ever need to tap our warranties, but I know that eventually, I'm probably going to want another one of their safes.

Sure is. Nothing to get a start in. I think people like their Sturdy safe and brag on it when they get it because it is obviously a very good "RSC", "Gun Safe", whatever one wants to call it. Beats top brands sold every day by a mile.

For me it ended up between Amsec and Study. The Amsec had the 1/2" plate door, which is impressive, but the door of the Sturdy is very stout and the body is much thicker than the Amsec. I am sure either one would do quite well. There are other good options out there as well. The price vs what you are for what you are getting compared to others seems to be one of Sturdy's best attributes.

I have said it before and I will say it again for what my opinion is worth but you can't go wrong picking an American Security BF or a Sturdy.
Each have their high points and low points but as far as dollar spent for burglary and to some degree fire protection they are hard to beat at the level they were designed for.
Proud Amsec BF owner with a fondness for Sturdy safes.

When I ordered my Sturdy I forgot to ask for a white on black lock. Arghh. I was pretty aggravated with myself.

So, I ordered a spy proof white on black ring and dial and installed them Friday evening.

I love it. I can even get it open with out glasses. The white letters and lines are big and show up well on the black background. I just line up the blurs and it opens. Yea.

I do still use glasses most times, but thought some folks with poor eyesight would be interested in that. I highly recommend the set up.

I have 2 Sturdy safes, and could have chosen any safe since one of them was my Christmas gift from my wife (I pick the safe, she pays for it.) Luckily, Sturdy safe is in the next town south (Fresno, CA), so I got to go see the operation and chose my second safe. The company is a family operation, and has an outstanding local reputation for standing behind their product. By the way, Alyssa is a cutie!
