Howdy, new to the board and from what I'm reading this is knowledgable bunch.

I had the luck of being able to purchase several handguns from a retiring police officer. One of them is the above mentioned Styer.

My question is about the safety, it came with no directionsor manuels so...
How does the safety work and where can I get a manuel? I have searched every where. It's tough finding info on this perticular weapon.

Thanks,
Rick

Here's the manual in .pdf
http://12.217.194.67/mrapathy/Steyr_M_Manual.pdf

Its 6.5meg so I'd right click and "save target as" instead of trying to open it in your browser.

If you don't have Acrobat Reader (what the heck is wrong with you? :p ) you can get it here http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html (its free)

There's lots of us here who have the Steyr M & S pistols (I have both an M40 and an S40) so any question you have can be easily and quickly answered here.

So did the M40 come with the full capacity magazines? (If so and you are not an LEO don't answer that question ... stick the mags in a box or something and hide them until September ... they are verboten under the AWB).

You can get magazines from www.cdnninvestments.com for about $20 ea.

Steyr safety

To engage the safety, push in on both of the little pins located above the trigger guard. The safety will engage, and the lever in front of the trigger will drop down, showing a white dot. To disengage, simply press upward on the lever -- it moves up, and you're ready to fire.

The pistol also has a trigger block, that is engaged with a tool provided by the mfer. You can see pictures of these conditions at <www.usasteyr.com/safetyconditions.htm>

Much additional information accross their website. The original M model is now out of production; a replacement is due any time... The S model continues in production. Great weapon. Wanta sell?

Z & MTN...thanks for the info.

Nothing is for sale yet. Still trying to decide what I like best.

Oh, and if you got the M40 with its plastic case, the manual is behind the foam padding in the lid ... in my M40 (which is a very early gun) there are 2 holes in the foam for your fingers to pull the foam back and reveal the manual, however in my S40 (which is pretty new) there are no such holes and if you didn't know the manual was supposed to be in there it wouldn't be obvious that the foam pad pulls back.

Just pull it out from the right side

here's a pic of what my M40 case looks like ... the S looks the same only those two holes you can see the manual through aren't there.
