I think there was a similar thread to this but it really was more to do with a firearm design. However, if you had a new idea for a high capacity magazine how would you go about submitting it to the various firearm companies? I'm not interested in copyrighting and trademarking it, a little compensation would be nice but I don't really care about it. I'd just like someone to make it. How would you go about it, just sending a letter with the basic schematics attached along with a SASE (self addressed stamped envelope)?

i don't you would get any credit or any compensation out of it if you just sent some schematics in a SASE.
most likely it would get put into the circular file(trash can) by the first person who opened it.
if it somehow did make it to one of the engineering departments the first tech that looked at it would probably say i didn't design that so it must be inferior and into the circular file it goes.
if by some strange chance it actually made it to a tech that saw it was a good design he would probably say if we slightly changed this & that it would be at least 15% different from the original design so now all ours.

you best bet would be to make a couple prototypes to make sure your idea actually works then go from there

What platform Major? The reason I ask is that I'm a metal worker that loves to tinker....Maybe I could beat you out (Metal workers term, not indicating an attempt to rip off) a working model.....If nothin' else you'd know if it works.....

you could also put the detailed info and drawings up on a website, and note that it is "public domain" information.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I appreciate the responses. It was just a design for a high capacity .22LR magazine which, of course, already exist today but the uniqueness of this particular design is that it would allow for a vertical profile (i.e. Stick looking mag like an Uzi, Thompson etc) which would open up new possibilities for .22LR. It'd be easy to make replicas of anything from an MP40 or USC in .22LR to the more standard high capacity pistols etc.
