Shooting suppressed 9mm and 300 BLK. Anyone out there got favorite mixes? Places to buy high grain subsonic lead? What shops do you recommend? Grain size? Just want something for 100 yard range plinking. Nothing too fancy. Some sort of coat to prevent lead fouling is preferred. Copper plated or other... don't care.

Depends what your shooting them through and how heavy you need to go for the barrel length. If your running a silencer that changes things a little to.

My favorite is a 168gr SWC sized to .3565 and coated with hi tek supercoat.

Tho you can't buy my above bullet you can buy pre cast and coated lead bullets from bayou bullets. His 160gr RN should do the job nicely and as long as your barrel to bullet size is good it's like shooting a plated bullet, no leading at all and little smoke.

I agree with the above.

If you want to shoot lead I would stick with the 147gr weight for the 9mm and go hard cast to prevent or at least minimize and fouling of the can. Missouri Bullets has a 15 BHN 147gr 9mm bullet that will work well IMO. http://www.missouribullet.com/detail...ry=8&keywords=

Just bought the MO bullets. THanks!

Can't seem to find any plated b00lits. Everyone is out of stock. May buy the Hi-Tek stuff and coat it myself.

I think 16-18 is standard for hardcast these days not really sure tho. I wouldn't get to carried away in bullet hardness. I doubt your ever going to need a 9mm above 15 and if it's a coated bullet you could probably get away with 8 at any velocity.

If you ordered the 147 gr 9mm bullets, would you consider adding the 300 BLK bullets too?

If you are looking for 147 gr 9mm plated bullets, Target Barn has Berry's 147 gr RN for 1000 / $110 - https://www.targetbarn.com/newstore2.asp?CAT=BULLETS&SubCat=BERRYS

I've been shooting plated 147s out my pistols with Gemtech can, and a buddy's Full-auto and suppressed Uzi.
I had picked them up from RMR last year. He had some a month or so ago, but is sold out right now. Definitely fun quiet shooting with them.
Missouri bullet and Falcon bullets both carry a 147 gr lead bullet.
I've thought of picking up a pack or 2 and seeing how they do in the suppressor.

what level of brinnell is hard cast? The 147 grain at MO bullets is brinell 15 while everything else is 18.
With the lower velocities associated with the heavier bullets in the 9mm you really don't want too hard a bullet. If they are too hard they won't expand and seal off the barrel and hot gasses might melt the sides of the bullet leaving a real mess in your barrel.

Bullets which are too hard will leave just as much leading in a barrel or more than a bullet that's too soft. The trick is to use the correct hardness for the pressures being generated by that load. This is the reason why the 147gr bullets meant for sub-sonic loads are 15 BHN while the lighter and faster bullets are 18 BHN.

I use my minor 9mm load, 3.1g of VV N310 with a Berrys [email protected]". If I am loading up a bunch for full auto 3.2 of titegroup costs less but is not quite as clean.

They have ran in everything I have tried them in except the ported barrel of the MP5SD.

Any concerns shooting cast out of a blackout with a suppressor? Was going to give the Missouri ones a try when the suppressor comes in. Either them or 208gr Amax.

The issue isn't leading in the barrel so much as it's fouling up the silencer itself. Less of an issue for take-apart models, but still.

Thankfully, all my suppressors are take-apart, even my 7.62 can comes apart. :)

That said, ya I'm interested in trying both. I just got my 1st stamp w/ plenty more pending and I want to compare the fouling of all types. Plated, jacketed, coated, bare lead..... you name it.

This is a great thread guys. Thanks to all those that have responded so far!

Wacki,
You also asked about mixes -- for the 9mm 147gr plated I've been loading them with 3.5 gr of Win231 and they've been perfect in all of my hosts as well as the buddy's Uzi I mentioned above. They worked with and without the cans in a variety of 9mm platforms. My standard hosts in 9 are the Glock 17, Beretta 92, and a Colt 1991. They have been flawless. I've also shot them out of a Glock 19 and 26.
I've been seriously thinking of going the 300 Blackout route for an upper and of course putting those through a pending 30 cal can. So, I'll be waiting to hear how you do with those.
