I mention yestiday to a friend at work that there a few more guns I would like to have. He told me that 6 guns is enough and in fact too many, and why would I want more.

Since when is six guns too many? All the other gunnuts at work have more then that...

Can a person have to many guns?

The only time you should even begin to think that you have too many guns, is when you buy a new one, take it home, put it away, and realize that you already have one of those. But even then it should be a passing thought, because having a matching set is cool too.

Mumbles to himself "too many guns, what is the guy kidding or what?!"

I have guns that I have never shot. I have some that I forgot I had and one I don't remember where I got it.

I think I have a lot more than I need, but I don't think I have too many

If I did I wouldn't be wanting a few more

Too many? Only when it's time for the annual cleaning and wipedown.

I almost bought a NIB FN Hi-Power Sunday because two dealers were having a price war. It was only $409 and change, but I decided I really didn't need another one.

No, You can never own too many guns. Especial if you live in a state like CA.

I know of several people that collect guns to supplement their retirement accounts. They plan on selling a few at a time to pay their bills after they retire.

One guy like's to buy used small frame revolvers. He told me that there will always be a market for 38 subnose's. Since the laws changes here in CA I think his investment has increase quite a bit.

Another had collected all types of used S&W Law-enforcement handguns. I think he stop because of S&W politics.

Handguns are a great hedge against inflation wish I bought more before the laws changed.

Oh, yes some of the best buy can be found in the used section of your dealers shelfs if you know what you are looking for.

My practical side says "yes, you can only shoot one (or two) at one time, and you realistically only shoot a few different types, so there can be too many". Based on my current income, living situation, and skill set, more than 4 or 5 firearms will start being 'too many'

However, the other side of me says "No, never, as long as we can keep buying them, we should". When my income and lifestyle supports this, I will:cool:

Cant have to many in my opinion.
I guess that there is a diff between how many you want and how many you need !!!!!!!!!!

There is most definitely a point where you can have too many guns. That point occurs when you have so many that you can not keep track of all of them given your system of care and handling. For many folks, one gun is too many. For others, they could own 50 and still be able to manage a few more. For the few I have, if I did not have a safe where they were kept secure, I would have passed my limit around 5 or 6. That is to say that while I may not be able to mentally keep track of the few I have, the fact that they remain in the safe means I can know that they are physically secure and I just need to keep track of the safe to keep track of the guns.

Too many guns?

I think you CAN have too many guns.

Like soomeone said, if you have more than you can take care of and clean and keep safely, you might have too many.

My second hint I have too many is when all my safes are so full and heavy that my floorboards are warping (like now) and I have to do major repairs on my house *S*

I feel that I have too many guns when I run out of room in my safe.....which happened almost a year ago. So........time to buy another safe! :neener: :D

Problem being......I keep buying more guns, instead of the safe. :scrutiny:

I am at "that awkward stage" -- I have so many guns that non-shooting friends (not all of them are gun-grabbers -- just not into it) can't think of why anyone would want/need that many. My shooting friends can't understand why I don't have one (or more) of this or that firearm. :D

The only time you have, or are buying too many guns is if you are taking the money away from what the family wants or needs.

Sometimes the problem isn't having too many guns but not being able to find anything to buy because you already have several of everything.:)

I've been an avid shooter for 50+ years, but only started "investing" in them about 35 years ago.
I probably have "too many", for several have been taking up space in my LARGE gun vault for YEARS, without being taken out shooting.

If you buy "quality" firearms, you can't go wrong.
But if you merely buy in "quantity", without regards to the "quality" of them, you probably have "too many".

Over the years, I've only sold a few of the firearms that I had purchased...and always for MORE than I had originally paid for them....so, they were very good "investments". With the sales of those firearms, I either bought BETTER ones, or more ammo! I'm not sure if anyone can have "too much" ammo!

I think it comes down to storage capacity and income... if you can properly store more guns and you have money to buy more guns, then you don't have enough, if you desire more.

I currently have 2 auto pistols and 2 AR-15's. I'd like 2 more AR's, a set of his/her double barrels, a remmy 870, get my 4 high powered rifles from back home moved out to CA, the remmy 700 PSS that I feel would produce a new hobby, there's the glock that I want for carry and the Super Red hawk for hunting, the 357 stub for the wife, the AK that would just be a conversation piece, the M2 .50 cal & SL-3... too many guns what a stupid Idea

I think Gene Hill explained all this thoroughly in one of his articles many years ago. Worth reading if you can find it.

For instance, suppose an old college buddy (who has become very successful in business) calls you up one day and invites you to go elephant hunting in Africa with him - would you want to have to turn down a free safari just because you don't own an elephant gun? :uhoh:

:D

I would say that 6 guns is a minimum:
22 rifle
shotgun
varmit rifle
big game rifle
and at least 2 handguns

I've got too many.

I can't remember what I have or where I got many of them.

I have nightmares about misplacing them.

Worried about who I'm going to leave them to.

I will need to have them all cataloged and appraised for insurance.

The last time I moved them to build new shelves and racks it took over an hour to move them out and an hour to put them back.

Keeping them all repaired clean and maintained is a daunting task.

Ammo cleaning and reloading supplies are stacked to the ceiling.

Well I guess too many is just enough:D

The day you have too many guns is the day that every safe in your house is full, there isn't enough floor space for another safe, and just in case you have at least 1 SD gun in every room of the house, including a glock in the freezer in case they come for ya while you're getting your midnight snack

I do believe there is such a thing as too many:

but that could just be the jealousy talking :D

I like to think that every gun in my collection serves some unique purpose, and therefore I don't have too many. My cz 452 is my most accurate .22, but it just can't go bang nearly as fast as my buckmark rifle. My HK p7 is a great carry gun, but it gets really hot if I shoot it too much, so my second p7 serves the unique purpose of being cool to the touch when my first one gets too hot at the range. Since they all have unique purposes I guess I'll have to keep them all (can you tell I've been working on this line of logic for a while now?)
