Such a thing as too many guns?

No
best part is, you get married to a gun nut wife and then your collection can double. (married 6 months, she's already bought 5 new ones)

she mentions to the me the other day, hey, there's enough space next to the safe to put another one that big.
By golly, there is.:D

Never, at least unless you can't provide for your family's wellbeing because of your passion...

Is there such a thing as too many guns?!!:what:

Is there such a thing as too many guns?!!:what:
Is there such a thing as too much air to breathe?!!

There is just something nice about ending up on a government list for having purchased too many guns in a month,Oh Don't forget powder and primers also.
I Do not know about you guys but I like the fact that I can still scare the man just by exercising my Constitutional rights.
WOOHOO let's stick it to the man.

I used to think there was such a thing as having too many guns. Why would I ever need more than one deer rifle, a shotgun, a .22, and a pistol?

Of course, that was a long long time ago when I was very young, very naive, and very broke. ;)

No, of course not.

But why are you discussing the number of guns you own with a co-worker? Seems to me it'd be wiser to keep a lower profile, especially if you've got a nice collection.

I mention yestiday to a friend at work that there a few more guns I would like to have. He told me that 6 guns is enough and in fact too many, and why would I want more.

Since when is six guns too many? All the other gunnuts at work have more then that...

Can a person have to many guns?

Compare it to tools. There are many different sized screws out there, will one phillips work for all? There are many different Hex and torx bolts. Would you use a sledge hammer to drive the nail to hang a picture?

I hunt several different species of game and also competition shoot. My hunting rifles are not used for competition and visa versa. I won't use a .416 Rigby to hunt squirrel (nothing left, not even tail) and I won't use a .17HMR to hunt bear (I think they would get annoyed).

Just a potential way to justify. Luckily, I only have to use the "kid" argument. "Cuz I want it, mommy!!!" :D

Does your friend play golf?

If so, does he think that 6 clubs is too many, since he could get by with just a putter in a pinch, or maybe 1 putter, 1 driver, and 1 iron?

Different guns for different niches...as long as they'll fit in the safe, no problem at all...

i suppose each person has his cut off number and some never reach it. last Friday i traveled to a larger city about a hundred miles away for the specific purpose of buying another gun safe. i found exactly what i wanted and now it resides in my hobby/reloading room alongside my other overrunning one.

back in the 50s i got a NIB 1911 and had all the gun i needed. then a M29 for 4 leggers. then a M19 made my collection complete until i ran across a little Colt target pistol in .22lr. see a pattern here? i still haunt gunshops and pawnshops, plus a few gunshows a year. tell myself i am looking for more barrels for my TCs. liar

so, if anyone has a remedy for this malady, please post it, for many of us could use it and put the thousands in savings for the wife a Mercedes or something.

I feel that I have too many guns when I run out of room in my safe.....which happened almost a year ago. So........time to buy another safe! :neener: :D

Problem being......I keep buying more guns, instead of the safe. :scrutiny:

I told you that I am working on getting the next safe. (or two?):D
Just keep on buying those guns!:neener:

well, thanks guys. Other then the problem of keeping track of them or if buying/using them hurts other areas in your life, then I can't see how someone can have too many guns. Besides having too many to shoot.

There are so more I would like to add to my collectoin:

AK style rifle
AR-15
Makarov
.22 revolver
NAA mini-revolver or Black Widow
Maybe an SKS
Military Mauser rifle
Broomhandle Mauser

And some others I can't think of now.

No not unless your insurance policy rider for guns has a premium amount increase when it goes over "X" number of guns, or "Y" value. But if you 'insure' them with my method (fire safe), then the only limit is how many you can fit in the safe. Even then, you can buy more safes.

There's a guy who doesn't post much but I believe is a member here - his screen name is "Jeff OTMG" - owner of too many guns. He named himself that when he was talking to a cop acquaintance one time and told him how many guns he had (dozens and dozens of handguns). The cop shook his head, and seemed confused, saying "that....that's TOO many guns." :)

YOU SURE CAN HAVE TOO MANY GUNS! Send me all your extras and I'll bear the burden.......:)

eh, i started rearrange my collection and interests. Sold off about 4 guns, and am down to two pistols and two rifles. Now over time, i am going to start getting guns that i know i wanted in the first place. I ended up playing musical rifles because of it. And i learned a lesson from it. Anyway, my next priority is to get a safe. After i get the safe i will start working on my collection again. Probly building a 1919 first while i still can, and than working on from there.

Too many guns? Sure, maybe there is such a thing as too many guns, but it sure as hell ain't 6 guns! Say I have so many guns I have to sleep on top of them, or I trip over them when walking in the door, or I can't shower because I turned the shower into a gun safe. That may be too many, but if 6 was the limit, I would have been out of then game at age 13. :D

I could see where if you had so many guns that some get neglected, you could have enough guns.

But honestly, I don't care. I'll never stop buying, I don't much care if something falls out of favor, I want more!

I only need a few more guns

I'm being very reasonable here.

I only want the basic neccesity when it comes to firearms. For me that would be, on top of the guns I already ow, I need to add:

a Colt SAA .45
Walther PPK
Seacamp .32
NAA .380
Springfield Armory GAP .45
S&W Performance center 5 shot J fram target pistol with laminated stocks
a Ruger 10/22 RIFLE
a NEW Ruger 10/22 Carbine
One each Ruger Model III 22' and .17's
an M1
an M14
an M16
an M4
an M79 (grenade launcher, I used it in Nam and liked it)
a Winchester 94 30/30
a Springfield 1903
a Thompson Sub
a S&S Kit gun in .22 Mag
a few derringers
a BAR in 30-06
a Marlin Mod 36 .22
Browning Auto 5 in 12, 16 and 20
a Browning (Belguin) Hi power, blue, with rowel hammer
a Remington 870 in 12 and 20
a Winchester Mod 12 in 12, 20 and 410
Berreta Silver Snipe in 20 ga.
M1917 S&W .45
S&S 646 .45
Ruger .44 Blackhawk
Ruger Bearcat .22
Colt Python .357 Blue, one 4 inch, one 6 inch
Colt Series 80 NM 1911 .45
well I guess you get the picture. These are the guns I just HAVE TO HAVE, and I am working on it. After that I may pick up a few others that I haven't thought of or seen yet. Maybe a Wildy, a P38, a Beretta 1934, a few Center contenders, a couple of Dan Wessons, Colt Detective Special, M1 Carbine, .....who knows *S*
