I am going to give you the background before I ask what gun would be easy.

My dad was driving back from Arkansas he was almost home well he was within 150 miles. There were some drunk drivers and they flipped their truck and Dad got out to help. When he did as much as he could he was on his way back to his rig and a gal hit him in his right leg. He got it amputated and now is waiting his prostecis (sp??). He is doing much better now.

Well he generally carrys a S&W .44 mag with the 8 3/8" barrel, in his rig. In a wheel chair it really is not pratical to carry a .44 mag that he carried in his truck. My question is of the following which would be the quickest for him to learn on and good for all around use. He will need to be able to reload quickly, easy of manual arms, and easily consealed. He was 390lbs and is down to 320 not the weight loss program we had in mind but it will have to do.

1911
Glock
Baretta 92 or 94
Ruger P97
S&W revolver

Side note no Kahr, hi points, keltec's, small grip pistols (he has huge hands), or something that is of the .44 cal.

I carry a 1911 so I am bias.

Sorry for your troubles.. :(

I have a couple of friends with huge hands. Both like the Glock M20 or 21s. Fairly compact for the power and capacity, no controls to use if your Dad is a long time wheel gun man.

Nothing wrong with a 4 inch M29 either.

Have your dad check out the Advantage Bags at www.wheelsource.com

I use the Deluxe Down Under #WH175. The main compartment will hold a 6" N frame, and the smaller front compartment will hold a Goverment 1911.

BTW: The owner sells to a lot of shooters and is a great fella to do business with.

Good Luck...

Joe

Of your options, I'd suggest the Beretta 92fs. Get one used at a good price, mags are easy to find, lots of accessories and very reliable.
Sorry to hear about your dad :(

Thank you guys. I really do appreciate your kind words and reccomendations.

I am going to see him in another week and we will try out a bunch of different pistols. We are going to have our semi yearly father son shoot out. I think I might have a fighting chance this time;). He has been wanting to get a semi auto but has not had the funds to get one or train with one. He is now going to be looking for one here in the next few months so I thought I would help him get started.

JoeHatley thank you for that link I will pass it along to him.

If you guys have any other suggestions please let me know. Thank you again.

P99 with the large backstrap... My dad uses the medium like me but he has large hands... might give it a try..

I own a couple of Glocks, but wouldn't suggest it. They are great guns (and easy to carry), but they take some time to get use to. They have a funky trigger.
I would suggest a Kimber Pro Carry 45acp.
I have a full frame kimber 45 that I carry........ and a friend of mine carries a kimber pro carry. They are reliable, easy to use and get use to. If you don't mind the price (Kimbers range from $600 up), this would be the best bet (in my opinion).

That's a hard story to read. I have big hands also. As does my brother. For what it's worth the Beretta family fits us perfectly. I also lean toward my Kimber .45.

Poor man...:( I'd recommend the Beretta also -- the 92FS full size or the Compact type M -- what I have, two of them...:D eight round, single stack. The Glock 19 and 26 are also good choices.

The P97 is not made for huge hands. I had one and the grip seemed a little small. It felt great in the store, but shooting it made me wish the grip was larger. My hands are only slightly larger than average, but I feel more comfortable with larger grips.

I really like the way Glocks feel, and Berettas feel right in my hands too.

How about a Desert Eagle?

Being a fan of Glocks, if your dad is not used to DA or SA triggers, I would suggest a 9mm Glock, size depending on usage. G17, 19, or 26.

For everyday use, if the Glock does not fit, any quality DAO revolver will fit the bill.
