Good plastic pistol for my old man?
glock-plastic pistol
ruger- plastic pistols
xd's- a great plastic pistol for your old man! i think the best!:)

btw I just love it when people pull the patriotic card and want to buy american made only weapons, yeah good luck there! hahahah
the xd's aren't american made, they are marketed by an american company and that companuy warranties them they are made in croatia! most of the best gun makers aren't american made, but that is the way it goes!:)

Maybe it would help if you reminded him that the people who pick the guns off of the docks, load them into trucks, drive them to the stores, and sell them are probably all americans who benefit from his purchase:)

Fondling the goods

Take him to a good shop and go through everything they have in one or two calibers. You gain a lot of insight into what feels good in the hand by checking out everything. I never thought of myself as a Walther person, primarily because of price. A friend and I went up to look at the Glocks because he'd been really turned on by one a guy at a firing range had showed him. After test feeling all of the Glocks, none were quite right for his hands. We went on to the XD's, H&K's, S&W's, a Beretta, and finally ended up test fitting a Walther P99 in a 40 that they had in the used case. We were both surprised. After considering all of the options, he'd decided that his next handgun was going to be an XD, and I'd decided on a Walther P22 for plinking.

Point being that preconcieved notions might not be the only way to go (reminder to all, Hi Points have picked up standing in a lot of eyes, ugly as they are). Keep suggestions in mind, but it's not Holy Writ.

you might want to try the 5.7. the recoil is about the same as a 22.

my brother in law got to see the president at the airforce base hes stationed in, apparently they had 5.7s

Since you FATHER is already a Ruger Revolver Guy, why not suggest a SP101? I know you said he's stuck on a .40 semi-auto but it's worth a mention anyway. Again because he already has a Ruger and probably trusts them, the Ruger P944 is a nice pistol. http://www.ruger-firearms.com/Firearms/FAProdView?model=3435&return=Y If that's not for your DAD then the Springfield XD is a great gun like many have already said. http://www.springfield-armory.com/xd.php The Walter P99 is a great pistol too but it's heavy and might be a problem for your FATHER is he wants to carry it. Smith & Wesson M&P Compact .40 is also a very good pistol and would fit your FATHER'S needs well. http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/...ted=tech&isFirearm=Y&parent_category_rn=15711

There are a lot of good choices out there and most would be considered the correct choice.
