Suggestions on keeping handgun mags organized

Like many THR members, I have a variety of handguns - and each handgun has several mags.

Some makers do a great job of keeping the model and caliber stamped on their mags (Sig, Glock, etc.). Meanwhile, others don't (mostly milsurps).

I have piles of mags. I've started writing on them with a permanent marker. But any suggestions on organization? What do you do?

Maybe quart sized plastic bags that are labeled?

I use the plastic bags. Better than a marker pen is an electric pencil. It won't wash off when you clean the magazine.
 
I use small cardboard boxes marked with the magazine type, and caliber also if I have multiple of that pistol. I keep all the boxes in a tuff box so they stay organized.
 
I just picked up a small set of 3 drawers in a plastic case from Target for this purpose, but I only have a few extra mags as yet. I think I'm going to go with this theme in the future, either tool or small parts organizers or Akro bins.
 
Those craft/fishing tackle boxes, you can but some pretty big ones at wally world etc.
it's what the LGS uses, some masking tape and moveable dividers and you know what you have.
 
I use plastic baggies for mags & write on them with a sharpie and I use dif. tool boxes for ammo. So whatever I am going to shoot I just pick up the tool box with ammo & mags and go to the range.
 
Walmart sells fishing tackle containers like those shown above by rcmodel...except they're about 4 bucks and the plastic is anti-rust embedded. I use these for mags I don't reach for often.
 
All those little boxes and velcro-flapped pouches are great until you outgrow them. I think I'm going to have to give in and add a couple of these.

Maybe I just need to sell some stuff or at least stop buying.
 
just bought three more Plano boxes, under $6 each

realized they could clear out most the gun/holster parts/tools I've been keeping in a bedside drawer, as well as storing the magazines to MrsBFD's carry guns, my carry guns, and even rifle magazines!
 
If the handgun has a storage case then I'll put as many as will fit in there with the good. For additional ones beyond that I use tupperware containers. I get a decent sized one, write the name of whatever gun I'm storing for on it, and then use it for any "goodies" that go with the gun. That includes extra mags, holsters, spare parts, etc.
 
I use a silver sharpie to write on the side of dark colored magazines, and a black sharpie to write on stainless mags. It really helps to be able to tell the difference between Beretta 92 mags and Sig 226. Same with Glock 20 and Glock 21 mags.

I have dozens of magazines for the AR's as well as various pistols that are kept loaded. I write the load info on the side of the magzine as well. This way I know if I'm picking up a magfull of 55 gr FMJ or 68 gr match ammo at a glance. Same with the handguns, I know if I'm picking up 200 gr 45's or 230 gr. The writing on the sides of the magazines cannot be seen once it is inserted into the gun and is pretty easy to remove if I change ammo in that magazine. But I rarely do that. If I go to the range and shoot from a magazine, I just fill 'er up with the same ammo when I return home.
 
I use Zip Lock bags. i write the gun/caliber on the bag. They get stored on one of the shelves in my safe.

It works for me but other methods already posted are good as well.

I have learned of another use for all the Crown Royals bags that i am accumulating.:)
 
Neoprene eyeglass cases.

I often will take a side arm and extra magazines with me in a back pack, luggage or some small duffle. When I do, I carry the magazines I want with me in soft neoprene eyeglass sport cases.

These work really great. I can fit 3-4 magazines, depending on the type and size of the case. I can keep the case in a bag, or transfer to the console in my car.

It is another way I can keep my magazines organized. I only have two handguns. A .45acp and a 9mm. So, I can keep up to 4 loaded magazines ready to rock, in addition to the one in the firearm. All mags fit into two small cases, both containing up to 4 mags (4 .45acp with rounds, 3 9mm with 15 rounds...that should be enough firepower for anything...if not...I will be way way down the road running :). They are different colors, and styles, so I know which is which at a glance and in the dark.

This way....I can be organized, I can grab in the dark and...I can grab and go. 24/7.

Ammo cans. They're cheap, can be found at any military store, and you can store ammo with the mags then you can't mix that up. If your shooting 9mm then only that can would be open and the same for .40 or .45.
 
I do something similar to Jed Carter. You can get them from Midway, Cheaper Than Dirt, Magills, etc. You can store the gun, and mags in the case.
