Summer Is Coming, Getting Hot, I Need a Pistol ...

I'd print too much for me...

I strive to avoid printing.
I'm wearing a regular t-shirt in pic; in summer wearing an "A frame" (wife beater) covered with a loose untucked polo or whatever and shorts.
I can lean forward quite a bit without printing.

All you need is a quality lightweight single stack 9 and there are so many: S&W Shield, Ruger LC9, Glock 43, Springfield XDS, Walther PPS, Beretta Nano, etc., etc.

I tested among them at the range and decided on the Shield and am still very happy with my choice.

Not for mowing the yard, bicycling, jogging, for those a pocket gun (Kahr PM9) has to suffice.
I need something for when I'm running errands, shopping, church, going in & out of air conditioned buildings dressed in summer attire.
Something that fits my hand, is easy to shoot, in a caliber that offers ASAP incapacitation potential.
That describes the pistol I've been carrying; I'll keep carrying a full size pistol, plus a pocket gun. :D

Got that covered; the 2nd option pocket gun I'm carrying is a Glock 43, carried in weak (left) hand front pocket.

My top picks in no particular order:

HK P30SK (user choice of 9mm or .40S&W)
H&K VP9SK
Walther PPS (user choice of 9mm or .40 S&W)
Glock 33
Glock 29
Glock 30
Sig Sauer P239 (if you can track one down, and these were available in 9mm, .40S&W, and .357 SIG)
Glock 43
Glock 36
S&W M&P Shield
Sig Sauer P225-A1
Sig Sauer P365

There's a list of 12 that are relatively light weight, relatively compact pistols that fire a minimum of a 9mm right up to a 10mm for your various social requirements.

I already have a pocket gun, Glock 43 which is 2nd option to the 1911 that is IWB. (Last sentence in my OP) ;)
I was merely pointing out to anyone interested in this class of pistols, that the 365 is also a choice. Considering its capacity, felt recoil, shootability, sights and so on, in my opinion it's best in its class.

Got both and carry both, simultaneously; Glock 43 in weak hand front pocket along with one of these 10mm's strong side IWB.

What ammo do you run in those 10s?

Handload (not reload)
10mm Handload 180 Nosler @ 1,228 fps / 603# KE - recoil energy 9.2 - PF 221
10mm Handload Nosler 150 JHP @ 1,402 fps / 655# KE - recoil energy 9.4 - PF 210
45 acp Winchester 230 Ranger T @ 915 fps / 428# KE - recoil energy 8.2 - PF 210
45 acp Remington Golden Saber 185 +P @ 1,157 fps / 550# KE - recoil energy 9.0 - PF 214

Subjectively my 10mm handload feels like a warm 45 acp, calculations support my impression.

Underwood loads the Nosler 180 @ 1,250 fps and the Nosler 150 @ 1,500 fps

My 10mm 1911's have never fired a round of FMJ, mainly my HP handloads
Colt ~450 rounds, Ruger & Kimber ~350 rounds each without any malfunction.

Thanks.

I was shooting my RIA with my favored handloads (200 XTP @ just under 1200) and was thinking that for carry I might need to tone them down some.

I had been thinking of running some drills and seeing what my splits would be with those compared to my .45s.

gun 003.JPG My usual carry, in a pocket holster with a speed loader in the other pocket, light and accurate. I also have an M9 with 2, 16 round mags for winter carry or un shoulder holster under baggy over shirt for summer carry in dangerous or unfamiliar areas.

Your location of BG KY: Warren Co. has about 100k people and "dangerous" people are mobile, could show up anywhere, anytime.
The Wal-Marts, Krogers, Meijer, ect... are all within a few miles (minutes) of each other, psychos & criminals gotta eat too.

9mm OK?, then go with the Shield or P-365. The Shield was the top seller for 2017. The P-365 is the current pageant winner. Small and high capacity.

The thread is about how I'm carrying the same pistols I already carry, all year. ;)

I want reliable, light, and small/slim.

I’ve yet to see anything better than Kel-Tec PF-9. Lightest, slimmest 9mm available, inexpensive to boot, 17 oz. loaded, I’ll have it when anything else would be left home as too large or heavy. If 8 won’t do it I need a bodyguard.

I’ve had 3, zero failures in over 1000 rds. I have a G43, larger and heavier and one less capacity so I don’t use it. I am going to get a Sig P365 if I ever see one, though it is supposed to be a little heavier too.

IWB either my Walther PPS M2 LE or my Springfield XDE both 9mm. Love the xde with the Walther close behind.

I got rid of my Kel-Tec PF9 and kept my Glock 43. Every pistol, even the same pistol from the same manufacturer, is different. My PF9 had a terribly stiff and long trigger. My G43 has a great trigger. YMMV.
