I know they make convertibles for the regular blackhawks. What about the super blackhawks? I got one in 45 colt, I'd like a 45acp cylinder. Is it possible? Do regular blackhawks use the same cylinders as super blackhawks? I know the frames are larger on the super blackhawk, but that is as far as my knowledge goes.

I would have to assume that a 45 ACP cylinder would have to be custom made since the diameter of the SBH cylinder is much larger than the Blackhawk or Vaquero cylinder. To my knowledge Ruger never made a convertable Super Blackhawk. I would look for a convertable Blackhawk before going to the expeense of having one made. Incidently I found a spare 45 ACP on Gunbroker and fitted it to my Vaquero very easily.

I never saw a Super Blackhawk in any caliber but .44 Magnum.
I think you have a .45 Blackhawk with a Super grip frame. In which case a .45 ACP cylinder will work.

Actually, Ruger did make a Super Blackhawk .44Mag/.44-40 convertible. It was a distributor special, much like the convertibles for Buckeye Sports but I forget the distributor's name.

Ruger has also produced Hunter models that are marked "Super Blackhawk" in .41Mag and .45Colt.

The receivers are the same size on all .45 Blackhawks, they utilize the same receiver as the Super Blackhawk. Only differering in grip frames.

You could call Ruger to see if they will fit a .45ACP cylinder to your gun. Bear in mind that it must be as it left the factory or Ruger will return it to such condition before they send it back, along with a bill for the parts and labor. So if you've got a Hunter model .45 you're okay but if it's anything else, you'll need to source the cylinder elsewhere.

EDIT: Jerry's Sports was the distributor that ordered 1200 Super Blackhawk convertibles in 1990.

So long as the end result is that of a cataloged model/variant, you can have a cylinder fitted by Ruger.

CraigC said the rest of what I was thinking upon reading the original post. So if the Op has a SBH in 45, it';s the Hunter model which was not available as a convertable and therefore Ruger won't fit a 45ACP cylinder to it

I'd call Ruger & ask them. IF - they'll do it, the new cylinder has to be fitted to your gun. You can't just get a cylinder & expect it to work.

The chambers have to line up perfectly, the barrel/Cylinder gap has to be within spec etc.

I know this because I bought a BH 45 Colt & after the purchase found out about convertibles. So I contacted Ruger & this is what they told me.

By the way, If your gun never came as a convertible, Ruger almost surely will not make it so.

Good luck!

I started the process by email & here's what they said about my BH 45 Colt.

Response:
Cylinders are a fitted item to each individual firearm and need to be installed by our technicians at the factory.

Cost for cylinder installation: $95.00 for the cylinder, $50.00 labor and $30.00 return shipping.

It is a distributors exclusive (Lipsey's I believe, although I got it off GunBroker).

It is exactly this model but in 45 colt (hunter)

Thanks for the replies, I'll give Ruger a call and see what can be done, if anything.
