I bought me a new scope today. I have three rifles that I do not have scopes on and found a decent deal on a Ziess Conquest last night online. I went to buy it today and the salesman tried to sell me a Super Sniper instead. I did look through the Super Sniper scope and it was real clear but I just do not know enough about them to spend $600+ for one.

So my question is has anyone ever used one and if so what do you think of them? Are they good quality scopes?

Thanks,

Depending on the rifle.. and its accuracy I wouldnt ever skimp on glass.

Go to the forums at SWFA and read up on them. Also go to Snipershide.com and get the opinion of the guys who frequent that forum.

The regular SS line will cost you lots less than your stated price from SWFA. There are a couple of new scopes in the line that hit that price and above but they are supposedly worth it.

There are plenty of scopes that are better but none are better at their price point. Actually, there really aren't better scopes under a grand for their purpose except for maybe low-end IOR's (which may have their own issues), at least when you are talking new scopes.

The SS line is good bang for the buck. One thing about the Zeiss that bugged me is the turret caps are plastic and the finger adjustment on the turret appeared to be plastic as well, same even on a 2600.00 Zeiss Diavari. Maybe no big deal but only thing plastic on a scope better be the lens covers, maybe that is just me.

I enjoy my SS side parllex ajst scope on my ,308 HB I need not spend more than I have too and still get quality for what I use it for simply put I don't need to spend 2k on a scope that these old eyes can't telll the 1,5oo difference or should I say I don't mind not having the best money can buy with the savings you can buy ammo/another rifle, reloader ect...ect.... like'm so much got 3 of'em.

Care to evaluate on that last last statement?

If you get one get the lower magnification 10x. The 16 and 20x do not have good resolution IME. I couldn't get mine to totally focus at 300 yds. One of the common selling points you hear about SS scopes is...."you'd have to spend twice as much to get a better scope". Not true. A $500 Zeiss Conquest or Leupold VX3 are in a different class and you don't have to be an optics expert to see it. Not good enough glass for what I needed. YMMV.

Guys,

I want to thank you for all your comments...I am glad I did not let him talk me into buying the SS instead of the Ziess Conquest 4.5x14x50 w/target turrents. I think for the $100 more I spent on the Ziess I got my moneys worth.

Thanks,

I didn't know they had SS scopes that were $600. They are usually 299, I got mine with that microsoft Live cashback promo thing awhile back and it ended up costing me $236 for the 16x model. For that price it is untouchable. For $600 that would be a whole different story.

personally, I would take 3-9 ffp mil adjusted with mil reticle scope any day over "great glass". zeiss doesn't make a scope I would even consider buying under three grand. the new ss variable has nothing in common with the old fixed power scopes except the name.

you must be pretty wealthy...

I would not pay 3k for any scope.

Not sure why you do not want great glass though especially if you are a hunter. I have looked at Nikon, Pentax, Burris, Meopta, Bushnell, Leupold, Zeiss and Swaro to name a few and I own scopes from these Mans, Burris, Meopta, Leupold, Burris, Redfield and Zeiss and of all the ones I own and the ones I have looked at for the money Zeiss has been the best scope. It performs better in low light and not one of the 7 I own has ever lost zero.

And none of the ones I own has cost my more than 1k.

So are you a target shooter? Long range shooter? I guess it all depends on your personal goals.

Good luck to you!

i'm not rich, just picky. And I do like to have great glass in my scopes. My primary scope is a premier heritage, and the glass in that thing is simply awesome.

I'm not sure what to call the type of shooting I do. I throw alot of hanging steel targets out across a large field out to 1200ish yards, and try to hit them. Target distances unknown. Laser the targets, dial in my dope, and let the bullet fly. If I miss, I need to be able to read by how much in my reticle to adjust accordingly.

The type of scope that makes this type of shooting possible has to have certain features. These features with great glass usually cost upwards of 2000 dollars. If I needed a more budget minded scope I would take less glass with the same features all day long. I think that is where the ss variable comes into play.

I have a Super Sniper.
Biggest thing for me is I'm just not that crazy about fixed power scopes.

The one thing I can say is I do trust that the scope will track. If I put 2 "clicks" right I get a half MOA right.

I did shoot a Night Force recently and am starting to appreciate better glass.
