I have seen several suppressed firearms available in auctions. Its my understanding it takes more than a month to get the approval to purchase a suppressor (paperwork, CLEO sign-off, wait for stamp).

How does that usually work with an auction? Does the seller typically expect payment prior to approval or does everything just go on hold after the auction is complete until the stamp is received?

Thinking about purchasing a suppressed pistol and was considering an auction to save a few bucks.

If anyone has purchased a suppressor via auction, I'd appreciate it if you could share your experience.

On a second note, can anyone recommend a 9mm or better caliber pistol for suppression. I know you can do it on the cheap with a Walther P22, but I would like to use mine for home defense and would want at least 9mm.

Thanks!

Pay close attention to the state the seller is from, and if it's on a Form 3 or a Form 4.

If the seller is from another state, and it's on a Form 4, two $200 transfer taxes will need to be paid.

Yes, the seller will want paid before the transfer is even started.

And just so you know

if it's on a form4 (not owned by a dealer) out of state it will require three transfers to get to you

1st, seller to their in state dealer($200) 2nd, their dealer to your dealer(free) 3rd, your in state dealer to you ($200) + your dealer's transfer fee(typically $100-200) total time approx 3 months in transfers

you save $200 and one transfer if you buy from a out of state dealer

you save two transfers and $200 if you but from a in state individual or dealer + you save $100-200 for the dealer fee(from your in state dealer)

It can go directly from the out-of-state individual (on a Form 4, $200) to your in-state dealer, then from your in-state dealer (on another Form 4, another $200) to you.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. At least I know what to look for now. Since I'm not in any hurry, I'll see if I can find something in state.
