For reasons that I cannot explain, I was able to show up late for work today. So before I went in, I stopped at my LWM to see if they had any .380 ammo. This is about 725am. There was a guy there conversing with the clerk about ammo that he had bought yesterday. Apparently, there is a recall on some of the Winchester M22 1000 round .22lr packs. They had just gotten in 2 more boxes of 1000 rounds each of .22lr. The guy bought one and I decided to give the other a good home. ($54.43 OTD!) After the guy had gone, the clerk told me that if I had not been there, the guy would have bought both boxes. The clerk says that the guy is there every morning when a truck comes in.

Moral of the story: If you are there with the hoarders, you may make them feel guilty about what they are doing, which is good!

This talk about hoarders is stupid.

There was the talk back in the 1990s about ammunition being engineered to go bad after a few years and there followed a huge run on reloading supplies but many didn't learn.

When Obama was elected once again paranoia or good sense, depending on your perspective, caused another run on ammunition and reloading supplies and many didn't learn.

When there was the mass school shooting there was the mother of all runs on ammo and realoading supplies the results of which continues to this day. Those who learned from the first 2 incidents were prepared and haven't had to angst about ammo.

My prediction is that some won't learn from the most recent shortage and when the next crisis occurs once again won't be prepared and will be pissing and moaning about "hoarders" who have prepared before hand.

And yes, with the current prevalance of lame brained liberals who don't care about the Constitution of the United States, there will be another crisis.

They are called preppers.
Go back 2 generations, and this is how people lived. you stock up at the store, you grow and "hoard" your food from the store, because you didn't go to the store every day. It's actually common sense. Buy it cheap, stack it deep. Or better yet, buy it now so you wont be wanting it tomorrow.

All this talk of hoarders reminds me of when my kids fight. People need to have a reality check. the world we live in, you might want to start stocking up.

There's a significant difference between someone who maintains a stockpile for their normal use and those who have turned their free time/schedule into a business buying up all available ammunition from local sources (and online) so they can resell it.

I've kept 10,000 rounds of .22lr onhand for years because it is very easy to shoot a thousand rounds with friends and guests and those interested in learning to shoot (and because it used to be inexpensive enough to shoot it that way). We'd shoot 500 or 1,000 rounds of a Saturday or Sunday and then go buy another brick or two to replace it.

Now we shoot less and ask guests and those interested in learning to shoot to bring their own knowing they won't find much and it will offset my dwindling supply. They won't find much and my supplies will dwindle as long as people like the OP describes continue to scarf up the available ammunition and resell it at gunshows and on Armslist for elevated prices (because they've gobbled up everything in the retail establishments).
