Does anyone know about Frugal Squirrel's "membership requirements?" My attempt to register was met with this emailed response:

>Unfortunately your registration at Frugal's Forums did not meet our

>Frugal's Forums

I don't recall putting down anything questionable on the registration form. No luck contacting them, either.

Frugal Squirrel

There is a lot of info. but I left because of the anti-Catholic bias. This site appears more objective and less judgmental. Ferfal, were you once a moderator on that web site? I believe we communicated at least through posts. AKA Pauliepaul if you remember?

Yes, I remember. :)
And yes, I was a Mod at Frugal's.
When Catholics got attacked I checked with John and his reply to me was that Catholicism was, and I quote, “unacceptable with even a casual reading of the scriptures.” and he also said that we where going to hell. Seemed very sure about it, as if he had the power to make that decision himself.
I double checked with him via email, after asking him in the Mod forum. Same reply, about two lines long. After years of contribution, that’s all the respect I got from him.
Then, I asked to be removed from the “Team Frugal” ( moderator) since I didn’t feel comfortable with belonging to such a team since I found out what it meant. Not only did I get removed form the “Team”, which I asked, but I got my account erased and unable to reregister as a bonus as well( isn’t that called banned? ). :)
I can’t help to feel a bit of guilt thought, should have left earlier when I saw all the racism going on. During the Catholic bashing days, a black lady member said that she constantly read racist remarks on Fruglas.
A moderator ( one of the wise “behinds”) had the nerve to ask her to list those threads.
The lady replied to the post five minutes later with a dozen racist post she found, all posted in the last week. I wanted to puke, felt so ashamed.
As a Mod, I did my best to stop the racism going on there, only to get told to shut up.
This is a waste of band, but I’m SURE someone will post right after me, saying it’s all a lie. If anything good can come out of this, is for honest, good people to know what FS is all about.
I once replied to one of the many racist posts against blacks, calling it for what it was, to what John Maniatti, the owner of Frugal’s, replied:
"FerFAL, I have enjoyed your posts over the last year however you are not qualified to speak into this situation. Race is a major issue in our nation that needs to be discussed in a rational manner. The 'black' culture is a disproportionate part of the miseries this nation finds itself in. The proof is in the stats and the problem is only getting worse. The reasons are irrelevant as it can't be changed in our political system. So take a deep breath and let us work through one of our Republics' major problems.

Thank you."
How did I get a hold of this piece since I’m banned? Well, just to prove my point about racism in FS, I found it while doing a google search. Turns out this was over at the largest white supremacy forum on the net. They seem to like John and Frugal’s there.
The WS forum member that posted the above quote added:
”I think that's a damn good post.”
Turns out many white supremacists enjoy FS. We found out about it, CJM can back up what I’m saying, he read it all just like I did.
John said that we would wait until ALL the WS where out of the closet so we could ban them all at the same time… guess what?
NONE of the white supremacists got banned! Even though they kept on posting racist remarks against black people.
FS violates it’s own rules against racism, just as it lies when they say it’s a “Christian” forum.
So please, spare me the “FS is not a racist forum”. It is, I know, and there’s the evidence, there’s more if anyone wants to waste more time going through google.
The quote I provide is 100% truth, as well as the reply by the white supremacists, anyone that doesn’t believe me can search a piece of it through the ws forum and see for themselves.
Mods, sorry for the rant, just want the trust to be known. Fed up of all the cheating and blunt lies.

FerFAL

I will preface my post by saying that I am not a Catholic. However, to say they are 'going to hell' is, at best IMHO, stupid. I quit 'Frugal Squirrel' in that basis.

They may have some good information, but how can it be trusted when they base their beliefs on such stupid tennets related to racism & bias?

What is the deal with frugal squirrel? I am a loooooongtime member, or thought I was anyway. I've been away for a year or so and just went there to sign in and it won't accept my user-name and password anymore??

Thanks

I know Ragnar Benson used to have an on-line version of the American Survival Guide magazine. Haven't seen it in a while, so it looks like that one is gone.

I signed up for frugal a several days ago and I'm still waiting for admin authorization. Hope it's just the holidays...........

Considering FerFAL's comments about them, I'm surprised you would want to be associated with them.

I read a lot of these gun and survival threads and there are way more right wing nut bags than one would even guess. I know I will get flamed for this, but I have never found a liberal website that so many angry, racist nut jobs.

Personally I have found angry wack jobs distributed pretty evenly across the human spectrum.

On the topic of the OP, I recommend:

SHTF Militia

We're relatively new, just started about two months ago. We're getting some great people and animated discussions going on. Come on over - the more the merrier!

And yes, this is certainly firearms related - guns 'n' bottled water, what more do you need? (as it turns out, maybe a little more)

Bladeforums.com has a pretty good wildernes survival forum. http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/index.php

I got a Chistmas hello from Gun and Game forum. Forgot about it. Checked I was a member since 2005 and never posted. Been going there a bit of late. I like the forum. Give it a try. http://www.gunandgame.com/forums/

A year or so ago, I was looking for survival forums and I came upon WS forum. I joined and started reading posts. I saw what it was and I have not been back. Not my cup of tea. I was almost ashamed that I joined based on the name alone.

There are some sites that if you don't login or post within a certain time frame your account gets dropped.

Long Live Mel Tappan!!

I wish I could find some of my books that he wrote. It was an amazing education reading his stuff when I was 16 or 17.

I'm surprised that only one person has mentioned Alpha/Rubicon. Their group does take some EFFORT to join, since you have to actually show that you're doing something to be prepared for an emergency and that you could help your fellow members if needed, but they don't require you to do much, and the lifestyle changes they suggest are actually PRACTICAL, not nutty or weird.

The site does allow the general public to access a wealth of articles on all aspects of survival and preparedness. It's just that you have to become a member to reach their forums and more detailed discussions. I'm not a member yet, but from what I've read so far, it seems like the Alpha/Rubicon folks have a very "High Road" attitude. They believe in deeds, not words (facta, non verba), and they like to back everything they claim up with evidence and practical demonstrations.

Members of the group choose to live a "preparedness" lifestyle that is about WAY more than simply stockpiling ammo or grabbing a bug out bag and heading for the hills when SHTF. They believe that you can be prepared for disaster AND lead a perfectly "normal" life that won't make your neighbors think you're a nut.

Their definition of SHTF doesn't just include foreign invasions or the radical collapse of the government. Their members live day to day in such a way that they are prepared not just to survive for a few weeks, but to LIVE in reasonable comfort after disasters of any kind. That includes losing your job and natural disasters. IF a natural disaster really does put you out of your home (like Hurricane Katrina), then Alpha/Rubicon members are expected to help each other out. During that disaster and others, members from nearby unaffected areas will reach out and help their fellow members, and since they are all living a "preparedness" lifestyle, it's not a big burden on them to share their strength with their members in need.

Meh, I missed FerFal's comments. Either way I go where high quality information is. I'm not looking to make friends. An earlier poster said it was "THE" survival forum so I signed up. If somebody knows his topic well I'll listen to them. It doesn't mean I have to choose to become like them or even invite them over on poker night.
