I am picking up my first auto tomorrow, an XD .40 SC. I am told it will shoot anything, I am skeptical. I reload everything else that I own, will do so for this gun to.

Will this gun struggle with SWC's? If so, do you have a lead bullet that will fire well out of this gun.

but it is pretty finicky about reloads and the crimp.

Ditto. Reloads with my hand cast 175grain truncated cone bullets sometimes have trouble feeding. Haven't really troubleshot it yet.

My revolvers need a good crimp, does an auto? Seems like a light bell and light crimp is all that would be needed.

swc in an Xd 40

I run ALL of my 40 S&W reloads through a Lee Factory Crimp Die. It will ellimenate the possibility of " bullet set back".

No issues with 180gr hard cast lead truncated cone reloads in my XD40 (or any of my other .40S&W guns). I too use the Lee Factory Crimp die.

The H&G 68 style lead SWC was designed to hit the feed ramp same as ball in a 1911 and this shape often causes issues in other than 1911s. OTOH if your gun feeds them, they do punch nice clean full caliber holes.
