Just wanted to toss this out there for those that aren't aware of this stuff. I'm sure a lot of you have already tried it.

Sweet's 7.62 Solvent is great if you are like myself and shoot a lot of corrosive ammo and always want to make sure your gun is safe from damage afterwards. It's one of the most unique solvents I've used.

First it wreaks of ammonia so don't get your face close. It's basically a gel, which almost foams up when you mop the bore with it. It will even turn blue for you if there are still corrosive salts left in the bore. All you gotta do is keep scrubbing and cleaning til it's clear.

Yes I realize windex/ammonia will do great, thats what I always used. Just thought this was a nice product. Love it for my PSL because I've been shooting a lot of the 7n1 stuff from Russia. Great for my Mosins too.

Okay that sounded a lot like a commercial ad for this stuff. Oh well. Give it a try if you want.

Uh.....Sweets is a Copper Solvent and turns blue when it dissolves copper. It isn't really supposed to remove the salts but might if you used enough of it and it contains some water.

Please be sure to flush your corrosive shooters with water to remove the salts....then use the Sweets to get the copper out.

Water is not the only way to get the stuff out. There are cleaners that can do it, although I profess to always using water and a funnel.

Sweets is good stuff. If you shoot, a bottle of Sweets, a bottle of Kroil, and a bottle of CLP should be mandatory.

Well according to Sweet's it contains 5% Ammonia and is advertised elsewhere as cleaning out the salts. False advertising?

Not false advertising. The ammonia in Windex is what makes it work, and judging by the smell, Sweets has more ammonia than Windex! Just be sure to clean out the Sweets when you are done, its strong stuff.

You ain't smelled nothing until you've taken a big whiff of Montana X-treme bore solvent. I literally curled into the fetal position when I accidentally smelled it.

I guess I should have paid attention to the sticker on the top that said "strong fumes".

I have had success with using the Sweets solvent for cleaning out corrosive salts. Ammonia is known to neutralize corrosive salts. That's why some people use Windex for neutralizing them. I have yet to have a problem with corrosion or pitting in my M-39 (very birght, shiny, non-pitted bore), and the Sweets is used exclusively for cleaning the copper and neutralizing the salts- sofar without issue.

i am not so impressed. i have used it twice, and after i was done, my old stand by, Hoppes No. 9 Bench Rest Copper Solvent, got out more copper, and junk the sweets left behind. next time, i am going to let it sit for 10 minutes and see what happens.

Hot water is probably the best thing for corrosive primer salts. Flush your barrel at the range with hot water from a thermos, swab it dry and you should be good until you do your regular cleaning.

It may be good stuff, but for corrosive ammo I use water. I have a small hose that I connect to my sink and put the other end just outside of the chamber. It works great and it cost next to nothing.
