Check this out:

SWFA has 1.5x16 compact ACOGs with crosshair reticles for ~$550, $300 less than anywhere else I can find. Also, some of their compact ACOGs are at this price, and others more or less equivalent to prices elsewhere. Can anyone think of a reason for this? Old stock with dim tritium? Problem with a particular model? Any insight would be appreciated. I've sent them an email but I don't expect them to get back to me during the weekend.

Also, has anyone had any experience with SWFA? Good place to deal with or no?

ETA: It appears the model number is TA26R4, Trijicon's site only lists TA26R10, are the ones on the SWFA site any older model? If so, are there any crucial differences?

I have an older compact 3x ACOG that I absolutely love. I bought mine through a local shooting forum and not SWFA though. But if you get it I bet you will love it.

I sort of wish they had these at this price before I started buying Aimpoints. Looks like a bargain to me. It does look like the old style, but still a bargain.

As for the notion of being old stock and the tritium being weak, it would have to be exceptionally old stock to be bad. I have an 8 year old ACOG that is still plenty bright for night shooting. The fiber optic takes care of day shooting, but even with the fiber optic tube covered, the retitcle is still plenty visible for day shooting.

Note that the compact ACOG looks like it is ready for carry handle mounting. So if you are going to mount on a rail, you are going to need to buy the mount and that will cost additional $.

Something like this...

or this from Trijicon...

I think for the $10 extra, I would go with the GG&G because of the ease of use with the cantelever.

SWFA is legit - I've bought over the web adn also visited their location south of DFW. It looks like the great price is on the cross-hair reticle that isn't very popular in the ACOG. Looks like a good deal

The only thing to be careful with at SWFA is that their website does NOT reflect realtime inventory quantities. As such it is easy to put something on backorder or sold out into your cart and think you will be getting the item shortly. Call ahead of time to determine if the product is in stock before ordering.

Roger that,
I waited for a set of scope mounts for so long that I ended up buying another set someplace else, only to eventually have the mounts show up months later.
That was my last order with those guys.

my experience has been overwhelmingly positive with swfa. i bought off the sample list. called before i bought to make sure i was getting what i thought i was getting.

i got a swaro z6i 1-4x24, illuminated, extended eye relief (on sale at optics planet for $2,229) for $1300 (or $1400, i can't remember) because of some very faint ring marks.

shipped quickly, no drama.
