I would not consider carrying a knife for defense without greatly improving my knowledge base

I agree partially.

I know of too many cases where the simple use or even presence of a knife and the will to use it was effective in self defense. Knowledge is always valuable, especially in knowing what is and isn't legal to carry and use, AND I'm a devoted advocate of training to develop skill to go with the will to defend yourself, but people can and have defended themselves effectively when the attacker expected them to be helpless.

OTOH, where the attacker is more determined, and I've found no way to block determined attackers from anyone's Outlook schedule, greater skill would be called for.

I should have said that I would not choose to use a bladed weapon to carry for self defense without knowing more than I do about how to use it effectively and lawfully.

I know how to use a handgun effectively and without using excessive force. Same for cane or a walking stick.

I cannot say that about a blade.

Thank Knife Rights for that. It wasn't an easy fight and took several legislative sessions (=lots of expensive trips) to free Texans from the idiotic laws against knife owners.
Oh, I'm totally aware of that, donated to the campaign when they were doing that one here in Texas and I think in Tennesee to though in probably wrong about the second part

Any help to KR is greatly appreciated. Right now they're in Ohio slogging it out.
