1858, I get this crazy feeling that the R-700 will be retired to back-up duty once you get that AIAW set up with good loads. ;)

I'm starting to feel out of place without an MTU profiled barrel
Eh, as long as it says Krieger you'll be fine. :D

kis2, thanks!! I have all of the pieces for another build including a fluted Krieger MTU #9 barrel, Badger Ordnance M2008 action and an AICS 2.0 stock but I've lost interest in the project. :( I realized that I don't want to shoot F-Class Open (F-O) so the .260 Rem build is redundant. I'm thinking about having my gunsmith chamber the Krieger barrel for my AI AW and selling the action and stock.

Mav, I have a .300 Win Mag set up just like it that I plan on selling since I'm going to buy an AI AWM. However, this Remington will continue to be my F-Class rifle and is in no danger of being superseded by the AI AW. The AW will be my practical shooting rifle.

sorry to hear that 1858. I think I know what you mean though, open class doesn't interest me much either.

Mav: I won't fit in the krieger category either! Brux lite palma #16. getting the action trued up, moving to a 10" twist and 26" of barrel. and all dressed up in FDE... she'll be pretty

Well, I called it a heavy MTU profile on that 26" Krieger, but really don't know exactly what it is. It is 1.25" in diameter at the breech end and maintains that diameter for 5", then tapers down to .930" at the muzzle. It's stupid heavy in the front. I'm either going to have to knock a few inches off of the front or add some weight to the back.

kis2, I take it that your rifle is getting that make over. What chamber cut are you getting? The chamber on my present rifle is cut so that a 175gr SMK loaded to 2.8" OAL (or 2.225 comparator measurement) is .020 in the lands. This thing shoots so good that I quit shooting groups and concentrate on hitting the target. I know that my rifle shoots and I have my load, so I shoot all one shot groups now. If I miss, I know it's me.

hmm... we may have to talk about that badger action... and maybe the aics chassis, but i'm not a super-fan of thumbholes

Man, I still love the look of the AICS stock. I came close to getting one, but luckily I got the opportunity to try one out. I just couldn't get comfortable with it.

kis2, it sounds like you're going to have all bases covered. Up close and far away.

It's getting a makeover, and you're partially to blame tonyangel! it all comes at a good time though, sort of 'congrats to yourself job well done' present.

Since I love the amax family, I simply told the smith that I want to shoot 178gr amaxs loaded to about 2.8oal.

From there we went with a brux ss 26" bbl with a 10" twist (he said he's had better luck with them than shilen recently, which was my original plan). I told him I mostly do practical shooting with a very little bit of fclass mixed and we ended up with the lite palma #16. I think it'll be a good compromise in the weight department. add getting the action trued up and the trigger surfaces polished and lightened and I'm officially in the custom category.

wrapped it all up in flat dark earth in hopes that when I touch the metal in this desert sun it isn't ridiculous hot. *fingers crossed* and it should look good.

consider my bases covered! now to prioritize ammo, training and competitions over gear...

lots of text, no pics. I'll make good on it, promise.

I see; figured the AIAWM would end up filling that role.

No experience there, but it is hand lapped and single-pt. cut, so I'd expect good things.

Sounds like this might be of interest to you: http://www.jallenenterprises.com/jae700_overview.htm (I plan to put one on the next build, a .260Rem. built on a GAP Templar action).

:)

.930" at 26", yes, that's Krieger's MTU contour.

It's stupid heavy in the front. I'm either going to have to knock a few inches off of the front or add some weight to the back.

There's a reason why some of us flute that contour.;)

Don, although it is .930 at the muzzle, the 1.25" diameter section at the breech goes on for 5". The MTU profile only holds that diameter for something around 2.5". I don't know. Maybe it's just a variation on the MTU.

I think what you have there is a Heavy Varmint profile (I checked and it is .900 @ 28in....so about .930 @ 26in. sounds plausible)...one of my favorites because it gives you plenty of room to chop off the breach and re-chamber to account for throat erosion (almost as good as a new bbl).

:)

Maverick, you hit the nail on the head. That was precisely the reason for going with this profile.

dubblea, as always, beautiful collection and pictures. Where do you get your paint done at if you don't mind me asking? the one with the 300winmag I think is my favorite

MJ could you please educate me on what rifle that is? Looks great

1943 #4T Enfield shoots .30 cal. 174g has 10 round magazine #32 Mk2 scope.
