Hello members of THR!
I am looking for your expertise in pricing a shotgun. It is a tactical Remington 20 gauge, rigged for home defense. It has Trijicon ghost sites, a tactical sling, and a side saddle. I have attached an image as well. Any thoughts are appreciated. I am selling it to a friend, and have no idea how much to ask, as I hear that tactical 20 gauge shotguns are rare.
Thanks!

They are rare. Especially that one. As in Remington produced exactly zero of these guns.

However home built jobs like this are somewhat rare but by no means valuable because of their rarity. It would only take a little bit of money to buy the components and slap them on there.

I would say add up the price of all the components involved and subtract 20%. That should get you your real world value.

Not sure what makes the $5 nylon sling tactical...

Seriously, though, it looks like a standard 870 Express Synthetic with sites added, and a sling. As above, add up sum of the parts, plus a used 870 Synthetic (about $250), subtract 20 -25% of the parts cost, don't add for the gunsmith install of the site and there you go. Sounds like $300 to $350, maybe.

Welcome to THR, mhoen.

The link is to the production 870 Express 7-shot model, also offered in 20 gauge.

Your gun is worth whatever price a willing buyer will pay to a willing seller, but I don't think I'd call it 'rare.' The problem with customized production guns is that it's often difficult to get out of them even the amount of money spent putting them together. Unless you can find a very eager buyer, you'll likely lose some money on the sale...

Let's see, that's shotgun is available new for about $240 after rebate, $90 for the night sights, $25 for the side saddle, $15 for the sling, and $30 for a smith to drill and tap for the rear sight... $375? Yeah, you might be able to get that out of it.

Edited: My math was wrong, that comes out to $400. I think you'd still be able to get $375 for it. :)

Thank you all for your thoughts! This is exactly what I was looking for.
I also misused the term "Rare" in this case, I think. What I meant is that rarely does anyone bother to make a 20 gauge tactical. Yes, this was all aftermarket work I had done to it, and it was made especially for a small-frame female to use for home defense.
Thank you for your input, I have all the information I need now. Very much appreciated and have a great weekend!
