Okay THR,

Talk me into (or out of) a CZ75 BD. I want to know everything.

If you have one, what did you do to it to make it a decent nightstand gun?
Did you change the grips? if so, to what?
Is it as soft a shooter (9mm) as I think it is?
Do you ever carry it concealed? how does that work for you?
Do you compete with it?
What is the trigger reach like? do people with small hands find this pistol ergonomic?

If you passed on one, why?

A little background on me: I am a Sig man mostly. I was looking for a pistol that shoots 9mm pretty softly and his good ergos for the wife to shoot. She likes my Sig 239 (my carry gun), but I was thinking that the extra weight of the CZ might help with felt recoil.
She is getting more and more into firearms (she probably out shoots me some days!) so I wanted to get a pistol for her very own. I asked her about the SA model and she didn't feel comfortable with the idea of a safety. That's why the BD model.

Okay, let 'em rip!

Thanks!

I have a CZ 75B in addition to a bunch of other 9mm's including a Sig P225, a P228, and a P226 .40 S&W. I would highly recommend a CZ "B" or "BD" for somebody who likes their Sigs. The ergs are better on the CZ, the weight of the steel frame helps curb perceived recoil, but the trigger on my P228 is better than the trigger on my CZ 75B, which isn't bad at all, and which has improved a lot with considerable use. Your wife may not like a steel framed pistol like the CZ 75BD, since these are a bit heavy, a CZ P07 polymer framed 9mm might be worth considering.

I have four 9mm's. My CZ75 is easily my favorite. It was used and a bit worn-looking when I got it. It has been 100% reliable with zero work or modifications. The large size in general, and large grip area in particular, make it very easy for me to hold and shoot. The size and weight make the recoil very gentle. I would highly recommend them. :)

Thanks, Guys.

I would be getting a brand new one.

How have I missed these pistols before? Why are they not more popular? They seem like the bees-knees for an all steel 9mm.

Still interested in hearing other people's opinions. Also want to know what people use the gun for.

Thanks again!

I have several SIGs (P22x series) but enjoy shooting them no more than my 75BD.

Some say the slide railed inside the frame makes it especially accurate. It certainly makes me look good at the range. It is indeed a soft shooter.

Its full size and weight (steel frame, mind you) might be more challenging for concealed carry than you would like, day in and day out, but any handgun can be concealed with enough will. My wife is small and would not like the weight and reach, were she a shooter.

Its steel frame, its rails (the ones joining slide and frame), and its place among the "Wonder Nines" attracted me in the first place. It felt so good in my hand and performed so flawlessly even with crap ammo that I was encouraged to put more money into the gun. Not for sights, not for a trigger job, but for the Kadet .22LR conversion kit. Some say this kit is best of breed. I've had no failures with mine and love shooting with it.

Rumor has it that the combined slide stop/takedown "lever" is a design weakness apparently is prone to breakage. Haven't seen any data points on this rumor but you can always buy a spare.

All in all, a great gun for home defense and for the range, even the competitive one (did I mention the nice reset?).

EDC? CZ has better offerings. I have my eye on the PCR, but others guns are calling louder. The PCR with alloy (not steel, not poly) frame and decocker might appeal more to your wife.

The PCR has an alloy frame, not a poly frame. It's is similar to the BD, just a little shooter in height, length and weight.

I am VERY interested in the PCR.
How is the felt recoil compared to the Full size Steel frame? I would imagine that it would still be not too bad.

I will probably end up with both, but was thinking that the PCR might be a good start.

The PCR is a good gun. Mild on the recoil. A little more felt that the steel famed version due to weight. But the way CZ's fit my hand, I really don't notice much recoil. I also have a P-01, which is similar to the PCR, but has a rail.

I've been slobbering for a CZ75 for a few years, and a few months ago, finally lucked into a nearly new CZ75BD Police on one of our local classified sites, and I LOVE this pistol !! I have a good, old shooting buddy, that's a more skilled, knowledgeable and experienced pistolero than me, and he says it's the finest 9mm he's ever shot, and this guy's gone through a lot of nice pistols (me too, actually ;)).
Also, I shot this pistol more accurately than any new pistol I ever had, I mean, it was a laser!! I ran some of every kind of ammo I had on hand, from wally-world bulk Federal and Winchester, to Georgia Arms reloads, to some 30 year-old Fiocchi I still had lying around, to some of that new aluminum cased Federal, even a couple Russian steel cased ammos, and it ate them all with nary a burp.
That being said, it's pretty heavy to be toting around on a belt everyday, IMHO.
I would also prefer some larger dots on the sights, than these extra-tiny micro dots, but that's not a legitimate issue, as it's just personal preference, and it's an easy fix.
I personally wouldn't want to use it as an EDC or nightstand gun, but that's just because it would be such a heartbreaker to have the cops "borrow" it indefinitely should it be used in self defense. I prefer something I'm a bit less attached to for those appliocations, YMMV.
I've seen some very decent deals on these pop-up lately on Armslist and TheOutdoorsTrader, you might do well checking your local used market. Also, I've seen KentuckyGunstore run a couple really nice sales on new ones a few times in the last year, but they seem to be steadily creeping upwards as their popularity increases, so I wouldn't wait too long.

Long time CZ affecionado with a 75BD and 75 Compact.
Soft shooting, well built, accurate gun.
Trigger pull improves substancially with the supplied snap caps at about 1K pulls or rounds.
Highly recommend!

The factory rubber grips are highly recommended.

That's a fact. I cracked the hard plastic grips on my 75B and I'm putting on the rubber factory grips that come on the stainless 75B.

I love my PCR. It has been 100% reliable for the several hundred rounds I've put through it. The recoil is a bit snappier than the full size CZ75, but not much. It is still very accurate and controllable.

I really want to love my CZ75 BD. I wanted to get a full sized steel CZ75 for range and possibly nightstand use. Picked one up last month, and finally got it to the range this past weekend. Very accurate. Small bit of creep, but not a bad trigger at all. I'm not sure if I'm the one in a million with a lemon though. I had several failure to fire issues during the range trip. Always the last round in the magazine. This happened 3 times. 2 out of those three times after putting the ejected round back in the empty magazine it cycled and fired. The third time it happened I dropped the hammer on the same round 3 times, reloading into the empty mag each time. It did not fire. I passed the trouble round to a friend with a Beretta M9. It fired. There were no primer strikes visible at all on these rounds after ejecting them. At this point, I don't know if it is a magazine problem, an ammo problem (junk Tul-Ammo Brass Max, but my PCR eats this stuff up, or possibly a problem with the gun/firing pin block. I want to try it again with some different ammo before I call this a problem and contact CZ. I don't think I ever heard of a CZ75 with an issue like this, I suppose I'm just lucky....

Okay, so about the PCR, have you had any trouble with the Loaded Chamber indicator fouling up or anything weird like that?
I do not like the idea of an LCI but it looks like that's the way CZ ships them everywhere. I am assuming that it isn't a problem?

No problem at all with the LCI. It is very unobtrusive. You won't even notice its there unless you're looking for it, unlike my LC9 and 22/45. Never had any fouling problems because of it.

I have a CZ75 in .40 S&W. I changed the grips to Hogue with finger groves for better control. Very good guns, well madeand accurate.

I carried my Sig 239 for years....shot thousands of rounds through it. Now that I have my PCR (compact sized BD), I haven't looked back. You won't be disappointed. The lci is a non-issue. I like it.

My CZ75 BD Police is one of my favorite guns. I installed the CZ brand rubber grips and can honestly say it fits my hand like a glove. We're talkin ERGONOMIC! Trigger reach for smaller hands I think would also depend on finger length? I like the weight also - for me, I get back on target pretty quickly with what I would call mild recoil. It is an extremely accurate handgun. Get one, you won't regret it!

I've had my CZ75b for about ten years. I've had one major mod and that was a trigger job. I would not recommend this for a HD gun. The trigger is way too light.

I don't compete or carry, it's strictly a range toy.

My wife will not use it because the trigger reach is too long for her.

It's my favorite 9mm, by a long way. My daughter (age 30...5-6 ..120#) likes it , she has no trouble, but she has strong hands for her size.

I also have a Kadet 22 conversion for the CZ...it gets used a lot.

I've played with different grips and currently have a set of custom wood grips on it.

You should not get a CZ75BD if you do not like pistols that are solidly constructed, ergonomically pleasing, accurate, reliable and relatively affordable. If you do not like these things, then the CZ is not for you. There have I talked you out of getting one yet? ;)

Mine's a keeper!

my CZ75BD outshoots my Sig, and My Ruger. I don't know if it is the gun, or the way it fits my hand. I know it is my favorite 9mm by far. I picked it up after laying in my safe for about a year, and set the target at 25ft, AND HIT THE MIDDLE!! it will come to the range regularly again. It eats up the commie steel cases and is accurate. Even for me.
