Talk me out of a Glock 24

I once owned a Glock it was one the earlier models in a 9 mm, never could get used to that pistol.
Figured it was a fad and wouldn’t hold up.
Yep, I recall quite a few people saying similar things at the time. Glock's design was a game-changer, that's for sure. I was a skeptic myself until I shot a G17 during qualification for my MA licence-not-to-carry and shot one of the best offhand groups I've ever fired. I still don't like the way they feel but they are good, reliable shooters and are easy to work on, take apart, and put back together.

Glock ... Figured it was a fad and wouldn’t hold up.
Having started shooting with 1911 and Sig P226, I first handled a Glock 17 in the late 1980s and my reaction was, "Why would anyone make a gun out of plastic?" and handed it back to gun store staff thinking plastic guns would not last.

Forward several years and I was shooting USPSA. On one practice range day, a fellow match shooter handed me his Glock 17 to see how I did on the practice match stage. When I finished with faster stage time than P226 I was very proficient with, I couldn't believe it. I ran the stage two more times and each time, I got faster with comparable accuracy of double taps.

I was surprised that I could shoot a "plastic" gun that I never shot before better ... But shortly after, I bought Glock 17/19/26 and later two Glock 22s to shoot USPSA matches and added Glock 21/30/23/27.

I'm waffling hard between getting the G24 (I found out it's new in the box BTW) and saving for a Shadow or Shadow 2. I doubt I could shoot the difference and maybe I could get a "shadow 1" (SP-01 Shadow) for a good price assuming I can find one. Honestly with all the hype about CZ I expected to like my CZ75B Omega better but it's the hardest-recoiling 9mm I own and the trigger is very weird. I guess that's not fair to paint all CZs with the same brush based on my experience with one pistol but I'm a little leery of the brand at this point.

"The G17/G22/G34/G35 from a rest will shoot 1" to 1 1/2" groups at 25 yards with OEM barrel and should shoot sub 1" groups with a quality gunsmith fit barrel. The G24 should do as well." - https://forums.brianenos.com/topic/119807-glock-24-50-yard-accuracy/?tab=comments#comment-1355742

1" to 1.5" groups at 25 yards is accuracy level more than what you need and on par with what I have tested so far with my G22 (and I haven't tested most accurate bullet/powder/load yet)

But what matters is how a pistol shoots in your hands. While I liked and was proficient with P226, "I never shot it" Glock 17 shot better in my hands and subsequent Glock 22s - For me.

And remember this group? https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...ick-plated-bullets.761471/page-4#post-9646469

I think G24 should be plenty accurate.

My G29 with factory barrel is quite capable at 25 yards with my mild match loads...

And my primary match gun is a G35 that is essentially stock. It is plenty capable as well...

And then there is the 9 mm part, had a bad dream one night where a tweaked out creep wouldn’t stay down round after round, soon after I went back to my 45’s..............

That's called a handgun... Unfortunately a rifle is hard to conceal.

Sounds like you're getting it at a price you could recover on resale. Think of it as an inexpensive rental. If you love it, keep it. If you are disappointed let it go.

If it appreciates in value you may end up closer to one if the bigger fish on your list.

Meh... I don’t really sell guns. I did when I was young and stupid and I regret every single one.

I am not smart enough to get every purchase right. I would rather get back something for a mistake rather than have it sitting in a safe.

I have been lucky with selling guns I no longer need or have an interest in. So far I haven't had regrets about any of the guns I've sold.

Your position of not selling guns means being sure each purchase is right for the long haul and not just a shorter term extended try out.

If you don't want to sell anything then holding out for the number one item on your wanted list would seem to be the best strategy.

I have a hard time saving for truly excellent pistols I want like the Shadow 2 or P226 Legion or Beretta LTT or Wilson... but I always end up buying functional but cheaper pistols around $400-$500.

I've been reading your posts and enjoying your teaching and learning moments for some Time 1kperday.

I'm surprised that you seek out one of those glorious firearms and still don't have one.
It's time, if you see fit, to tuck that money in a hidden spot in the gun sasfe and keep throwing 20's in every week or two.

My vote is shadow 2 but I'm obviously biased. I have an sp01 fully cajun by them and my stock shadow 2 is right there with it. Great firearm!

My Christmas money and a bonus check have a trijicon sro landing on Tuesday and then the slide will be off to primary machine.
