OK. Well I have been looking in to SAIGA's, and after some poking around, I see that I can get a Saiga 223 16" barrel for about $240 DELIVERED, and a 223 w/ 20" barrel for about $256 DELIVERED.

I don't hunt. I would do target, and plunking. I have a Marlin 336 in 30-30, and a SKS w/ AR-15-type furniture, and a Mini 14. So I don't really NEED another rifle - (but you know how that goes). Anyway, I was half way thinking of another Mini 14 to tweak. But the Saigas are so darn cheap - they are hard to walk away from. I've had a yen for an AK from time to time. I like the AR-15's - but I just can not justify the extra money I'd spend on one. I actually like the funiture better on the Saig's better than the pistol-style AK stocks.

Thoughts?

 From WHERE?

I've got a Saiga I'm waiting on right now. It's sitting at my dealer but due to the dumb Maryland laws I can only purchase one "regulated" weapon a month.

For $240 I don't see how you can go wrong. I may even buy another one, but my funds are at an all time low after stocking up on black rifles just in case despite our best efforts the laws don't go our way. I say buy now, stack them deep and when you have funds later send them off to Tromix for a conversion.

Not even gonna try to talk you out of it. Couple weeks ago one of the countermen at my favorite FFL decided he didn't want to keep the 16" Saiga .223 he had ordered after he played with it for a while. It was lightly used, almost new, and he was willing to take $200 for it. So I brought it home.

My wife claimed it as soon as she laid hands on it... oh well. She wants it left as is, save for shortening the stock to fit her. I was gonna send it out to Tony R for conversion, so I guess she saved me some money that I can apply towards getting the .308 I really want after shooting the .223 a while.

I love Saigas, I luuuuuuuuuvvvvv them. they are great, they are fantastic, they are accurate, they are very accurate, they are super accurate!!! they are totally ak, except they can shoot. cold pour , hammer forged, chrome lined bbls, with i think a 1/8 twist, so you can shoot the 70 plus grainers. They are pretty accurate, by the way, if you don't allready know.

I'm not going to talk you out of a Saiga!!!!
Will say I love my 308,but with ammo costs, looking for some
different ones now.
So let the "cat out"of the bag. Who did you order from??

Ha Ha!!!

OK. No negetive votes. So I got one. From looking at Gunbroker - this is a heck of a deal. I ordered a Saiga 223 16" barrel from...

Bought mine from there, too. However, I live in GA and decided to drive up there and buy it in person. Nice group of guys, plus I got to hand-pick one with mag dimples and the Y stamp.

Now that I've converted her, with a KVAR stock set and a Red Star Arms adjustable trigger, she's a right keeper! :D

GT,

Yeah. They seem nice. I ordered on-line last night. I called this afternoon, and they said it would ship Thursday am - I expect I'll see it mid-week next week.
