As you may know, Tammy Bruce is sort of a conservative/libertarian, Reagan-loving, openly gay, pro 2nd Ammendment, talk show host.

She has quite an ecclectic view of things and promotes "authentic conservatism" etc. Basically she hates everybody but John Bolton.

Recently, she was criticized for breaking one of the Four Rules...she has posed rather fetchingly with her 642 and her trigger on her finger. Rather than moving on, she came up with the term "Trigger Nazi" and has posted a close-up of the trigger finger in question on top of every thread on her blog for the last couple of weeks (www.tammybruce.com). It has gotten out of hand. I mean the picture (of which there was originally 1) was forgivable and whomever made the remark about the four rules was well in bounds.

I comment because here we had someone that has some fairly progressive views about some things and yet remains committed to the 2nd Ammendment and she is making a fool out of herself by essentially denying the validity of the four rules. She's just got to put that bugger hook on the bang switch I guess to be a gun person. Very backward.

Perhaps I rant...

Well, this is America.
Part of being in a free society is allowing people to do dumb things.

They can still continue to do it, but at least the truth is where it needs to be.

EDIT: Who can I talk to so that my post count remains "666" that's disgustingly awesome.

Very simple.......just don't post any more.

To get back on topic, I suppose Tammy thinks mere silly rules are not intended for her. I hope she has a change of heart.

Tammy Bruce considers herself "libertarian" but she isn't. She's just as for regulating our lives as most politicians. (Which I expect her to become sooner or later.) Also, she's annoyingly stupid, which explains why she thinks it's amusing to keep posting that picture.

This is the post the OP refers to...

Reading some of her stuff, she seems just generally pissed off and down right militant. Not my cup of tea I think. She sounds like a nut.

But, on this issue alone, I have to agree. It's just a picture.

Indeed.

Reminding someone of the four rules is something I would expect here as we assume non-gunnies will be lurking and we don't wish to promote, even passively, unsafe behavior.

But this was somebody else's turf and the intent may well have been to make a point to an anti or two.

But until then, shut your Pie Holes and be grateful there's a woman out there promoting firearms, and realize there's a difference between an instructional image and an dramatic image.
I've no issue with that.

It's a picture.
One man's safety monitor is another man's busybody.

The Miss Manners of trigger etiquette that started channeling Cooper on her space had less than no clue what precautions (if any) were in place for the photo shoot. I never heard of the woman before but I think I like her.

It is just a pic. Is it even loaded?

I think the trigger police get out of hand myself, even though I try to practice keeping my finger off the trigger until go time.

It's a double action revolver. It would take a lot more than a little slight slip to discharge it.

Flame on my friends. :)

Besides, it would not be as powerful or sexy without her finger on the trigger. Sorta like neutered.

I am pretty hardcore so to speak about the 4 rules. I have ben called a rules Nazi more than once at the range when out with friends. However I think people are causing a lot of stress over nothing.

A true Reagan loving libertarian that is Pro Gun, Openly gay and therefore not a bigot. I wish there were more people with those views.

TBH, I hate the personal aspect of firearms..

I mean, I understand - perfectly even, that wearing a firearm for a long time every day all day in stress and in comfort, your firearm is there.. It's kind of, "A part of you" more or less..

Kinda like your skin, and your fingernails, and all of that.

That part is fine, that's what happens when time elapses. Bonds form, bonds are broken, etc etc.

What I do understand, however, is all of this "I have this, therefore this" that pertains to firearms..

I think it's stupid, outright, that someone would boast support for the second amendment. I think, equally, it's absurd to do the opposite.

The second amendment is less of a rule, and more of an observation.

People defend themselves. Inhibiting such actions will only cause trouble, as is natural, people will defend themselves from being incapacitated, no? Don't do it.

Firearms are a non-issue.. Tools.. why anyone puts so much into it is beyond me. Insecurities? Craving attention? I don't know what's going on there, but that's why we have so much BS involving firearms as we do today, whereas in the past it was simply...

*Man walks down road*

No one payed attention to the fact he had a pistol in a holster on his hip, or a rifle on his shoulder.

With all due respect to keeping one's boogerhook off the bang switch, it's a double-action revolver, and likely would have required a fair amount of concentrated effort to cause loud noise and screaming.

She's the kinda person we want on our side, not on the other.

In fact, we want ALL the persons on our side.

I wonder how many otherwise pro-fun folks have been alienated by getting chewed out -at length- over a -momentary- lapse of judgment.

I wonder if she'll blog about her ND when it happens?

Presumably she understands the difference between handling a firearm and using one as a photo/movie prop.

I like the photos she posted of John Wayne and Dirty Harry with fingers on the trigger.

My wife sometimes does a stich with the .44Mag -- "does this gun make me look fat?" :)

I've personally never felt that a pic with a finger on the trigger was a big deal at all, as putting your finger on the trigger of a gun you have personally, repeatedly verified is unloaded is harmless. I take the rule about finger off the trigger until ready to fire to apply to loaded guns, or guns whose stutus is unknown, not to ones personally verified to be unloaded. If it applies to unloaded guns, the I could never dry fire or clean/wipe the trigger of any of my guns, which means and important part of my gun is never getting cleaed.

fingering the trigger of a loaded gun, or one that you have not PERSONALLY verified is unloaded is dumb, and an accident waiting to happen. Doing it to a PERSONALLY verified unloaded gun is harmless, and often nessecary for cleaning and practice.

So, a finger on the trigger in a pic means nothing unless you know the gun is loaded, or has not been checked by the person holding it.So, in the vast majority of cases with pics, no one but the person holding the gun knows the status, so theres no reason to automatically assume it's an ND waiting to happen.

JMHO

Good post, jrfoxx. I think that the instant alerts to Rule 3 violations aren't really all that pertinent to posed commercial photos. I mean, what do you do if you want to take a pic of a model with his/her finger on the trigger--for some artistic effect?

I wonder if someone doing a photo tutorial on cleaning a GLOCK would be able to have a pic of the necessary act of pulling the trigger as a step before removing the slide, without having someone pop up with the "Oh ho, finger on the trigger!" comment?

That picture does something for me that I can't quite put into words. She is quite attractive. This concludes my daily salacious comment.

If you have ever really listened to, listen to what she is actually saying, she is one of the smartest people around. While I do not agree with everything she says, just about 95% of it, her arguments are well thought out and reasoned.

Tammy is far smarter then a bunch of complainers who like to get upset over staged photos and make us all look like idiots.

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! :what:

Dirty Harry is presumably ready to fire in the first picture, so there's nothing particularly wrong about it. The Punisher, on the other hand...that's just ridiculous.
