Police in Columbus, Ohio released surveillance tape Sunday of an alleged convenience store robbery where the clerk shot a robbery suspect.
The alleged robbery occurred earlier in the morning at a Sunoco station in the 3300 block of Cleveland Avenue.
The tape showed a man identified as Desmond Thompson leaning over the counter and demanding money. His hand was hidden in his coat.
Police said that Thompson, 26, implied that he had a gun.
The clerk, Karen Smith, then gave Thompson some cash from the register. When Thompson backed off, Smith, 52, pulled out a real gun and fired.
Thompson was struck once in the shoulder. The tape showed money flying while Smith kept the gun's barrel pointed at Thompson, who was seen obeying commands from the clerk.
Smith called 911 and told the operator that she shot someone and he was still in the store.
Minutes later, cautious officers entered the store and asked Smith to put the gun down, before taking Thompson into custody.
Thompson was not seriously hurt. He was charged with one count of robbery.
There was no word on whether Smith would be charged for using the gun.
