target rifle

ok im looking for something mainly as a builder right now, spending limit will be $300 not including add ons later on.

i want something reliable, semi or bolt, no lever. this will be a range gun for 100/200 yard shooting, maybe hunting if i want (yote, deer, other smaller animals)

main thing i want is something with a ok kick to it when shooting but ammo to be cheap. maybe military surplus. im hoping for 2-3inch MOA or smaller at 100yards.

i have a mosin M44 and plan on adding a 91/30 with ATI stock, ATI scope mount, Bipod all for under $300 to build and buy. i was also looking at other things. i like the mosin expecally the loudness of it and the kick as well as the cost of surplus ammo.

so what else could you recomend?

Savage or Stevens bolt gun in 308. Ammo is readily available and you can hunt with it later if you want.

You can buy a Stevens 200 in .223 for $275 or less. Out of the box it'll do what you want. But since you want a builder, as money allows you can build your Stevens into a formidable group shooting machine using plentiful savage aftermarket parts. The best thing is you won't need a gunsmith to do any of the work.

If you go this route in the end all you'll have is a $400 rifle that still shoots like a $90 rifle.

Buy you an old mauser. You can do anything you want to them. You can find them cheap all over the place.

I also suggest the stevens 200. I have one in .223 and love it. Many of these are sub moa with hand loads right out of the box.

i was thinking SKS just because i can go have fun and spray, but i dont think it will hold the accuracy i want.

im looking at the stevens 200, but what all is out there for it? barrel kit? stocks? what.

I have a Steven in 223, that shot a little under MOA, and was a great carry rifle. I ended up putting a stainless 223AI varmint barrel on it, then a Timney trigger, and a B&C stock. Shoots really well now, but not so good to carry anymore. Anything that fits a Savage 10/110 series rifle fits the Stevens.

The only thing you might have a problem with Savage and Stevens is the stock. There's not many out there for the new centerfeed models. The staggered feed has all sorts of options as they've been out much longer.
There will eventually be stocks, they're just so new that not many are making them yet.
As for triggers and barrels, you're gonna have all kinds of options to go with.

EVERYTHING! from muzzle to buttplate.

The .223 Stevens 200 I ordered last month was still a staggered feed rifle that now wears a choate stock.
