UPDATE Tattoo ideas

Gun related of course :D

I am thinking of getting a tattoo on my right calf. The one I had in mind was something I designed myself.

Its an American Flag with a rifle (probably an M-16) crossed and the words "I Will Defend" written above it.

Ill probably put an M-16 there, but I havent decided.

But my question focuses around the content of the tattoo. I never served in the military. Would people see this tattoo as someone trying to be a "wanna-be?"

I love my country and I will defend her, thats why I decided on this tattoo. Im just trying to get a general feel of how it will come across to an audience.

Thanks.

If you want a tattoo, get a tattoo.
There's a heck of a lot of non-military folks getting them. Don't worry about that "wanna be" stuff! Anybody asks just tell 'em the truth ("Nope, but I support the Bill of Rights!")...simple as that.

Just remember one thing about tattooes...once they're there, it's permanent So, chose your design wisely (something cool at age 20 can look foolish at age 40) and put it somewhere you can cover with normal dress if you so desire.

Me...got two:
Anchor (with "USN" across it) on left bicep...got it in Hong Kong in 1972 (yeah, I was a 22 yr old in the Navy then)
Eagle's head in front of the American Flag on my chest, just above the right nipple...got this one at a Tattoo Party about 6 years ago.

I do want to get another one...2nd Amendment oriented...but I'm having trouble finding the right one.

Good luck!

Yeah, you might get awkward questions in public like "oh what branch were you in?" Then you have to say you weren't in the military, etc.

How about this? Same tat, flag and rifle- but simply have: "Right to Keep and Bear Arms Shall Not be Infringed"

or some other pro-2nd saying? That way you are stating your case pretty directly without any confusion.

On that note, I wonder if anyone here has any 2nd amendment tattoos?

Follow George Carlin's advice, "Never do anything to help the government identify you." and skip the tattoo. :)

The new removable ink will be out soon. The ink is encapsulated in a polymer that dissolves with a special laser. The ink itself is dissolved by the body and the tattoo is gone.

When I think back on all the tattoos I've thought about getting over the years I am glad that none of them are on my body today.

I'd give some thought as to the amount of detail that you want in the piece. Generally the greater the detail the larger the tattoo.

I have a few tattoos and plan on getting a few more. I'll give you the same advice I follow. If you have to ask someone's opinion on a tattoo, don't get it. It's on you forever so when it's worth having you'll know, and no matter how many people tell you not to get it you still will.

I would probably ask what branch you were in. Your tattoo is your tattoo, and it really doesn't matter what we think. Although I wouldn't want something hideous on me. My only ink is on my back. I'll post a picture of it. I got an oringinal peice designed by a great tattoo artist. It was expensive, but well worth it in my opinion. Admittedly it's not a great picture, but you get the jest of it. It reads, In memory of my fallen brothers. There are three tear drops dripping from the right side for the three friends I lost while in Iraq.

How much did it cost? looks pretty good, though not my style (All my ink is black and grey). For the record, I have RKBA on my right forearm, molon labe on my left shoulder, crossed revolvers on my ride of my chest, 54R rounds with "we shall overcome" enscribed on them on my left calf and a great "live free or die" tattoo on my right forearm. These are only my gun related ones too.

If you like than thats all that matters.

Have to agree with Wuchuck. I remember in elementary school seeing a movie about how the Nazis tattoed an ID number on concentration camp vitims. I vowed then I'd never get a tattoo. JMO and to each his own.

I've thought for years what to get. All these hobbies of mine fade away after a few years. I'm glad I didn't get tats of my current interests.

One though crossed my mind a couple weeks ago.

"Ignorance Is Bliss"

Don't know why, I just like the saying.

A female at work just got "Live And Learn" on both arms.

When I get back in country I plan on spending alot of time and money on more ink. Alot of it freedom/American related too.

Nice tat!

The care you give it in the next month will effect it's looks for the rest of your life. Make sure you lotion it at least 4 times a day for the next couple weeks and KEEP IT OUT OF THE SUN!!!!!!!!!!

My husband and I got matching tats 6 years ago. I took excellent care of my in those first few weeks, where as he didn't. Mine looks as bright as the day I got it. His doesn't.

But my question focuses around the content of the tattoo. I never served in the military. Would people see this tattoo as someone trying to be a "wanna-be?"
Yup, that's how most would see it.

You sure you really want one on your leg? I'd opt for the arm for the 1st one.

You can do what ever you want. But once it`s on there.............it`s on there.
If your worring about what other people may think, maybe you should re-think your choice.
Now is the time for that not later!
About the "wanna-be" part, I`d say that`s a fair question. The only one that can answer that is you. IMO.
Good luck on your up coming "ink" job.

I would ask if you were a service member if I saw it, but I wouldn't see it as a "wanna be" tattoo.

You will be asked about it, that's for sure. Your answer will determine whether people think you are a wanna be or just a patriotic American. I don't have a issue with it. Not really my style, but it's growing on me.
