Anybody heard anything new on the 1911s that Taurus is coming out with? I read some posts and articles yesterday that said they were supposed to be available 4th qtr of last year. Seems like I read somewhere else that they might come out next month. Any info would be appreciated.......

I still have yet to hear any word from a non-writer who has gotten his or her hands on one. One story is that they were trapped in customs, but it beats me if that is accurate. None of Taurus' other guns seems to be having that problem. By comparison, the XD in .45ACP (also much anticipated and demanded) is downright plentiful (saw two of them in a local gun store last week; one 4" and one 5").

I don't remember if I read it here or on one of the 1911 forums, but there was a thread recently (in the last week or so) where one poster stated they called Taurus and was told by the end of the year and a second poster said he (or she) also called Taurus (within a day or so of the first poster) and was told by the end of May at the latest.........What can be gathered from this???
Well, your guess is as good as anyones! :p

I read a few things yesterday that said 4th qtr. even the taurus website said that, but i thought they meant 4th qtr 2005. oh well, i'll just keep waiting. or maybe just save up and buy an SA

The 1911s are exactly where the Taurus Thunderbolts in .357 magnum are.

They have been "only a month away" ever since Feb. 2005.

I'm a Taurus fan. I'm a 1911 fan. I don't have the budget for the SA or Kimber I'd like. So, I gave up and bought a Ruger KP345 a couple months ago (not a 1911 but its price, caliber, width, and weight put it in the same class as the aluminum framed Taurus 1911s and it is a tad shorter). My next 1911 will probably be either the Kimber Pro Carry II, or I'll go upmarket with the Kimber Pro CDP or full-size with the SA Loaded.

I've been wanting to see a Taurus 1911 too, and have been anxiously awaiting their arrival.

Actually, I'd like to see them intoduce a 4" gun. I need 1 to fill the gap between my 3" & 5" :)

Waiting is tough - but if Taurus is making adjustments & changes to assure reliability out-of-the-box, then I say it's worth the wait. They get blasted all the time for a poor workmanship reputation; they're better off to delay an introduction that put something on the shelves that isn't right.

I'm not saying I know that's the situation - just trying to give them the benefit of doubt.

I was one of the posters mentioned above that called Taurus a few days ago at the same time another poster called them - he was told the end of 2006, I was told the end of May! I'm also one of those that's been waiting since Shotshow '05 when the PT1911 was first annouinced. And I've still got one on order at my lgs although I've since bought an SA 1911A1 Loaded and several other non-1911's. I've heard the "problem at Customs'" tale too, but can't imagine why if all of their other models are coming through ok.

Well, I know that they're coming, because I played with a bunch of them at the SHOT show.

It's just unfortunate that they've continually been pushing them back...

FWIW, they looked, felt, and handled like a top-quality pistol.

Wes,
Nice to hear from someone who actually held one (other then the gun rag review), though I guess it remains to be seen if the production models will be the same.

As I hear it they will be available in 3", 4" and 5" sizes, could the delay be that they are waiting til enough (whatever that may be) of each has been produced before shipping so all three sizes hit the shelves at the same time?

I don't have the budget for the SA or Kimber I'd like.

Then take a look at the Armscor/Charles Daly/RIA guns from Twin Pines in the Phillipines. They start at ~$300 and compare very favorably to guns that cost 2X+ as much. Go to www.1911forum.com and in the "manufactures->other" section you'll find lots of happy campers.

I was looking at the website and instead of 4th Quarter it now says 3rd Quarter 06, maybe these things "will" be out soon
