Taurus 1911

While it is true Taurus does use undersized parts so they just drop in with no hand fitting, Most other guns in that range and even higher do the same thing.
But one thing about the Taurus is it doesn't seem to mess with its accuracy. Mine was just as accurate at 2k rounds as it was new.

Im sure some guys at TaurusArmed.com may have several guns that have many thousands of rounds threw them.
One good side of having parts that aren't fit so tight is that the gun will usually feed anything and not so picky due to such tight tolerances.

I never messed with the key lock on in hammer, Its never been an issue.

I agree that the play helps with reliablity when you are dealing with a mass produced 1911. However the looseness & play in the fit also causes more wear on the parts as the gun is shot more. I am not saying that they will not go 10,000+ its just that I have not seen a lot of reports of that round count.

My point of comparision is that a nice semi-custom like a Les Baer will go 25,000 before the need for a major overhaul. I would love to know where the Taurus would need the same.

My brother has a SS one. It shoots great. The breech face wasn't flat all the way to the edge so it would crease the rim of cases on one side. I filed it flat for him and it no longer does that. The extractor needed retensioning (not sure how many rounds at that point) and I took care of that too. When I had it all torn apart I was kinda sad at how rough it looked internally - tool marks all over the place. But that hasn't hurt how it shoots.

If I was in the market for a well-featured, cost-effective entry-level 1911 I just might be tempted to get the Taurus. I'd have to get rid of the ambi safety but other than that I suspect I'd be happy with it.

When I _was_ in that market I ended up buying used Smith&Wesson and Colt. Made in U.S.A. pushed me that direction. :)

Bought one about 6 years ago. Shot at least 1000 rounds through it and carried it frequently. Never had a problem. When I became an Arizona Ranger the drill was Glocks, so I sold it. If not for that I'm sure I'd still have it. Yes, the bluing is a bit thin and holster wear appears early on, but holster wear never bothered me. I believe it shows that its owner liked it well enough to carry it daily and believed in its reliability.

From the above posts it looks like I am one who got a bad PT1911. I don't have the gun anymore so I can't remember all the problems I had with the gun. The first things I noticed is the gun shot way high, the takedown pin (proper name ?) was very difficult to remove and install, the slide with factory mags seldom locked open on last round(3rd party mags worked better but still failed frequently) and the safety would not stay where you put it..

ive put another 1K through mine yesterday at the range, ran it dirty with no oil and it ate everything. federal, tula, winchester, etc.

just loading 10rnd mags and dumping them as fast as i could. no issues what so ever. came home and ran a bore snake through it, and field stripped it, little cleaning and some oil and its back on my hip. this week it will get a trigger job, only because i want it a little lighter to see if i can be more accurate with the gun, im holding it back i can tell for sure.
