Hey guys. Im looking to get a new 1911 5" as my new nightstand gun. Right now im loking at a taurus 1911, particularly the ALR model because it comes with a rail and many other features that other companies would charge 1k+ for. Also i would like a rail. Im also considering building my own as I am quite capable in mechanical areas. So im interested to hear how you all have fared your taurus products. Please only comment on taurus if you actually own or shot a taurus 1911.

Thanks

My PT1911 has been absolutely flawless. Over 5K rounds through it now, a few fail to feeds using reloads that were loaded for my glock. Nothing has ever broken or fallen off. Its actually more accurate than my old colt. I sold the colt after about a year of owning my taurus.

It never fails someone comes in and knocks the way taurus advertises the gun. No, its not a 1500 dollar custom gun like the ads say, but its a damn fine 1911 for the price asked.

That being said, you should also look into the RIA 1911s. Very nice guns for the money.

I have a low ammo count on my PT1911,but its worked flawlessly so far.It alot more gun than i expected for the money.

Thats the general consensus among those who own one or have shot one. The taurus bashers will proclaim it junk though, without ever shooting or even handling one.

I read a guy on another forum bash the gun and call it junk because the strait 8s on it were knock offs. They are licensed by heine but made by someone else. Big Fin deal, IMO. They work exactly the same, and didnt cost an extra 100 plus dollars.

I've put a few thousand rounds through two of them and neither gun ever had a problem. I've got a stainless sitting on my nightstand right now!

Ive read they dont put the Hiene sights on ones made recently,i bought mine 2 weeks ago and they were on mine.
I like them actually, alot easier to line up and more accurate than my stock Glock sights.
The newer made PT1911 come with Novak sights,i bet they still knock em tho_One good thing i can add is here at THR they stop and correct outright bashing and flaming,so hopefully people are able to make a better informed decision.

Personally i like my PT1911 over my G20c in about every way except capacity. The PT is thinner, smaller than a 2x4 grip the G20 has and sights line up better. And the accuracy differance is large with me as the shooter.Im just comparing 2 guns here with my own opinions, they may mean nothing to someone else.

The fit and finish on the PT is great on the one i own,the slide feels like its on bearings and its tight as can be.The finish can look thin, but its more than adequate for me.Plus i look forward to eventually having it finished in a simi gloss black in Gun-Kote.

I have been extremely pleased with mine and prefer the hiene sights to all but the trapezoid sights on my steyr. It has great features and i have not had a single hiccup...

More than pleased with the purchase...

I bought one of the first on the market in my area. Great pistol for the money. Zero failures with any ammo I've tried. Accuracy is what you would expect from a fullsize quality 1911, without the high price.

I have had one since they first were
first introduced and there is now over 32,000rds through it, i only had a handfull of failures and out of those 6, 3 of them where traced back to damaged feed lips on the mags 2, were from poor ammo. and the last was due to a broken extractor after 21,324rds yes i have kept a round count just because i was hearing bad things and wanted to prove it to myself. it will eat damn near anything, hardball, hollowpoints and wadcutters, this is the best 459.99 i ever spent on a handgun.
And as long as i do my part 2" to 2 1/4" groups at 25yrds is very common.
Hope this helps and good luck with your purchase
