Taurus 445 44spl

I have decided not to buy it.
I have the hots for a big bore wilderness gun. I don't think this is what I'm looking for.

If anyone is interested....I'll pm my lgs contact info and you can pursue it if you want....I am out.
It is nice that you offered to help other THR members.
If I was in the market for a 44cal revolver I would lean towards a S&W 69 with a 2 3/4" barrel to go with my 4.25" 69.

My 415 41mag isn't going anywhere as it owes me nothing as I have enjoyed it since buying it in 2011.

I was in my lgs this afternoon.
The owner asked what I was looking for....
I told him it was like when you walk up to the frig and stare inside.......
You're not really hungry....you just want something...
How about a $400 Taurus 445 44spl?
Hmm......maybe? I dunno....I swore off Taurus....
It says it's titanium......
5 shot big bore.
New caliber......
Shiny.......o_O
Snubby....

What say you, friends?
I'd take it. A nice .44 Special is always a good thing to have.

The titanium version would make a very good carry gun, but the standard version is too heavy, at least for my belt. For uses other than CCW, that 2.5" barrel is a real handicap with very little benefit. I'd pass, myself.

I'd rather have a Taurus, than a Charter Bulldog.

Check it over real good.

I don't know but for $400 (I would see if they could come off the price a little bit), I would take a chance on that Taurus. I like the idea of pairing it up with my Ruger Blackhawk Flattop, also a .44 Special.

I had the .44 Special Titanium snub variant.for awhile. The quality was excellent. My main complaints were the porting (not desirable), poor grip choices, and my example shot very high with most .44 Special loads.

Taurus did make a Ultralight 44 Spl snubbie with a aluminum framed.
and a steel version and a Titanium model.
$400 if you can get it for OTD at that price is a good deal .. any of those models would be great.

Have the ul version, which makes for a good carry 44 special. Dremeled the sharp edges off years ago. Had the stainless version, which was for practice. The ul version is a handful with Blaser 200 GDHP's, and not a pleasurable range pistol. Replaced the gripper rubbers with older set of compact rubbers for concealability.

Learned not to dry fire them, there is a very weak firing pin spring. Other wise they are/were decently made pistols with good accuracy for short barrel. The rifling was above average on both.

My wife had one, a solid gun, good shooter. Titanium, but the factory grips tame the recoil. A snubbie worth buying, IMHO.

Many years ago I walked into the LGS and there in the case was a Model 66 in excellent condition with a $200 price tag on it. I was on it like white on rice. When it was handed to me I found it was a Taurus .44 spl. 4" barrel. I don't know that I ever put it down, it went home with me and is in a go bag with speed loaders and ready to go. It was my truck gun for a lot of years. I think mine is marked as a Model 441. Word on the street is not to go all "Elmer Keith" on the 5 shot K sized frame and cylinder. I have always just shot what was reported as the Skeeter load. 7.0-7.5 Unique pushing a 240 grain cast semi-wad cutter. All that make a great combination of stuff for a sweet shooting setup. I would guess that $400 in today's world is close to what $200 was when I got my 441. It was first .44 and was not my last. I've never sold a .44. So, it could have serious future effects.

Oh geez you guys....

Buying that gun would be like a gateway drug into 44Magnum. Then I would have to get a bisley Blackhawk in 44mag....then a 44mag levergun........and dies....and molds.....and holsters......and brass...
What’s your argument here? I literally know people who have picked up a piece of brass from a gunshow or range and decided to build out an entire set based entirely upon a free piece of brass, in such chambering that they never even knew existed. That’s how the 400 Corbon guns I have shot came to be. Encore Pistol first, then encore rifle, then a custom pistol. All complete with their own accoutrements and fine leather going to town outfits. 44 spl leading into 44 mag is child’s play in comparison. Buy it and put the bisley on special order from Freedom Arms. Go big, go bigger, and then go home with it.

I think I give great guidance with somebody else’s money…

I had the stainless version in the late '90s. Looked good, carried nice and went bang, but for some strange reason, mine was incredibly inaccurate. Ammo was scarce and $$$ even back then, so I sold it downriver without regrets.

I do kinda miss my Titanium 7-shot Taurus .357 snubby, though even with the porting 125gr loads were pretty brutal.

Oh that would be just awful now wouldn’t it. I’d hate for something so unfortunate to happen to you. :neener:🤣

That said I never had plans for a 44mag until I got a 44spl. At that point you already have the molds and dies, what’s a new gun and some brass after that?

I have 2 of the 445's Titanium in 44 sp. And at 400 I would buy it and giggle as I walked away. I have seen them go for well over 600 on GB in the rest past. I have a 441, 431, Stainless and a UL. But always have room for another at a cheap price. They sit close to my Colts, Rugers, Smiths and Freedom Arms.

Other way around buckaroo. .44 Magnum is the gateway drug to .44 Special, .44 Russian and .44 WCF. Next thing you know, you're hunting down Charter Arms Bulldogs, S&W Model 24s and 544s. Yes, you've done the opposite. But in the end, nothing wrong with the .44 family.
