I saw a real nice 608 for sale yesterday. 4 inch barrel, blue, very clean and tight lock up. I could have it for $300. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it had a ported barrel.
If I understand it all right, the ported barrel will reduce muzzle flip, get me on target faster, etc., but won't it also be louder then a regular barrel?
I looked at this as a home or car protection gun, but I got thinking that .357's in a ported 4 inch barrel would blow my eardrums.
Am I wrong, or am I mistaken?

The ports will make the gun louder but firing a standard BBL 357 in your house or car is gonna be bad for your hearing anyways. At the range you will be using ear protection I presume. I have a taurus .41 mag that I carry from time to time and don't worry about the ports.

I don't like porting on HD or for that mater any SD gun because of the night blindness issue. the fire coming straight up into your line of vision while your eyes are adjusted to the dark... bad stuff. I would only get a ported gun if it was to be used only at the range, because that is where the blindness and noise will be irrelevent, and the recoil reduction would be nice.

An instructor that I had while taking a class for getting a 'carry' lic. told us that if you have a ported home defense weapon then after your first shot you'll be blind and deaf.... not a good situation for taking a second shot!!
