Getting my first handgun. Im thinking of the Taurus p-92. Clone of the Beretta 92, cheap ammo, inexpensive gun, reliable action. Anyone got anything to say about this gun? Good choice or not?

I can't think of a better place to start, down right cheap for the quality, and IMHO an improvement over the Beretta because of the "three way" safety that lets you evaluate DA/SA like the Beretta or Cocked and Locked SA like the 1911 or Browning HiPower. 9mm is the cheapest centerfire ammo to buy and if you decide to reload all the brass you'd ever need is yours for bending over to pick it up at most ranges.

I had one in while I was in the military. Ammo was cheap and I shot it alot, thousands or rounds. Never had a bumble. A great value and a really good design. Not a CCW but a really good house gun and plinker. Bill

Well thank you very much. I has taken me forever to decide on this. I was able to pick out 2 rifles and 2 shotguns before i could make up my mind on this. That just sealed the deal. Thanks again. Any suggestions on lazers for it?

Get one of the cheap $20 CDNN target sports lasers for dry fire practice. Other than this IMHO lasers a pretty much a waste of time and money until you get too old to see the sights as they are next to useless in sunlight.

I have had my PT92AR for about 4 years it's been accurate and reliable. I did trade it off to a buddy of mine and six months later we made another trade and I got the 92 back and this time it's for good.

I have a Taurus model 99 (92 with adjustable sights) bought it new over 15 years ago, it predates the decocker. After thousands of rounds I have never had a problem that wasn't my fault. (bad ammo, limp wrist, etc.) I also have a Ceiner 22 conversion that works great too. Push a button, flip a lever, pull off slide and reverse, caliber change in about 10 seconds. I own a wide variety of brand names and can't say anything bad about my old 99 Taurus.

side note:evil: : guns should not take batteries.:D

True you can definatly get along without a laser but there is nothing more intimidating to a home intruder than either a red dot on their shirt or the sound of a pump shotgun cocking. Id rather the accessories scare them off than having to shoot at them.

I've had one since 1988. Found it was more accurate than any Beretta I put it up against. Carried it on duty for 3-4 years (policy change made me stop). The only problem I ever had was the rear sight leaf (it's an adjustable sight) broke about 5 years ago leaving me with 1/2 a rear sight. Wouldn't have tied upo the pistol. Sent to Taurus and they fixed it with about a 2 week turnaround.

I have an older PT99 , pre-decocker. The price was right .. I paid $325 total, and it was barely used. I've got quite a few rounds down it with various ammo, and it hasn't failed on me yet. I really enjoy this gun. I would really suggest the PT99 over the 92 for the adjustable sights.
