The smoothbore long gun length restriction is an effort to prohibit short-barrelled shotguns, hence even guns with another rifled barrel of the same length (as with the Marble Gamegetter, a 13" .44 smoothbore and .22 rifled pistol). It's certainly a strange law.

PS: That is a REALLY cool lookin' gun...
 
now, so it's beginning to sound like there is no good reason to ever use a smooth bore Circuit Judge and only buy rifled, is that what yall are saying? Even if you're buying it to be loaded with shot shells?

I wouldn't necessarily say that, but for me...yeah, the rifled one is the way to go. I fully intend to use .45LC cartridges (and hopefully .454Casull, and while I am still dreaming .460S&W too) so the rifling will be a welcome addition, and honestly I see little reason to purchase one without that capability.
