Does anyone know how to remove the firing pin from a Taurus PT-111? I think I have either a broken FP or spring.

The manual that came with the gun is too small to make out the exploded diagram. The manual posted on Taurus's site doesn't show anything, There's not a diagram for it listed on Numrich.

After I remove the rear FP retainer and the FP captive assy, the FP should be free to slide out but it doesn't. I removed the small plate on the underside of the slide and didn't lose any of the small springs. The only thing I can think is that its somehow held in by the safety lock?

Anyone knwow this gun well enough to help me out?

Thanks for trying . I've been there. Its actually the picture on pg 34 and it doesn't show all the parts that are in my gun. And even with that picture, the FP doesn't just come out like it shows.

I don't know if something's holding it captive in there by design or if something's broken inside that prevents it from coming out, but it doesn't want to come out and I don't want to force it for fear of causing more problems.

Pry up the plastic end cap and remove it, Push in the fp and remove the metal plate retainer, press in on the fp safety and catch the fp as it flies out.

mpmarty,
What is the fp safety? Are you talking about the rod and spring that slides inside the fp? The part shown as 1.13 on pg 34 of the link posted by XDKingslayer?

There is a plunger that sits at 90 degrees under the fp and blocks it from moving forward or backwards unless it is depressed. This is the fp safety. You need to depress it to remove the fp. Stand by and I'll go look at the diagram and give you a number id.

OK, it is # 1:16 and its spring 1:17

I'm listening to the 3rd period of the Penguins game right now. I'll go down when its over and look, but I'm pretty sure there's not one of those in my gun.

Thats one of the things thats screwing me up. The diagram in the online manual isn't exactly like my gun and the diagram in my manual is too small to work from.

I'm one to do as much as I can to fix something and this one's really starting to piss me off. :fire:

I figured out how to remove the fp. My gun is an older model of PT-111 and not like the one in the online manual.
There's a pin in the safety mechanism. You pull that out and it allow the internal safety lock to rotate another 30 or so degrees. after that rotates, it can come out. Once the safety lock is out, the fp comes out. It appears as if there's a steel sleeve pressed into the titanium slide that the fp rides in. It looks like the end of that sleeve is bitched up. How? I don't know.

I'm guessing that I voided the warranty by tearing into it but I'll check. If it isn't covered, I'll let a local gunsmith have at it.
