I currently own a Taurus PT 111 TI that I bought on an impulse buy. I have not been able to get used to the trigger (making consistant hits difficult on the range). Also, the light weight of the gun makes it too uncomfortable to should for extended periods.

I've been looking at other small 9MM's for CCW and Kahr's look promising. The PM9 looks like a very good carry gun. How is the recoil on the gun? since it is very light I'm concerned that it would not be comfortable to shot for long periods.

I would like a easily concealable 9MM that I could practice with alot.

Thanks
Chris

I own a Kahr and i enjoy it very much. It has never given me any problems and it's not uncomfortable to shoot.

I've owned and played with a Kel-Tec P-11, and EG Mak, and now have a Kahr P-9. I've shot a PT-111, and while the trigger was better than the P-11, I didn't like the gun much.

I find the Kahr the easiest to conceal and the softest shooting of the three. I had previously shot a PM-9 and expected the P-9 to be similar. Its not; its as easy-shooting as a Glock 19...

The trigger is very good, but unlike the P-11 or Mak, the slide must be racked if the cartridge doesn't ignite on first strike. (Most don't view that as a problem. I don't, as the tap/rack/bang drill is the proper reponse to a failure to ignite.)

The only advantage of the P-11 is that you can get 12+ rounds in a hi-cap mag that fits flush. I've got a backup 8 rounder for my Kahr, and do 7+1.

(The P-11 will also accept a S&W 59 15 round mag, and spacers are available to make the look and feel like a part of the grip.)

I find it far easier to shoot the Kahr well than the P-11, but others can make a P-11 sing.

I have a PM9 and like it very much. It took a little time to get use to it but then everything was fine. Initially I found it a bit snappy compared to my regular guns plus only a 2 finger grip took some getting use to. Learn the gun and with practice you will start to appreciate it's advantages.

I have owned both a Taurus PT111, an ealier Model and a Kahr P9 (yes the fullsize if you can call it that).

The Taurus is a little snappy, but what can you expect? The Kahr on the otherhand was equally if not more so. I simply could not stand to shoot the thing with 147gr. loads, (which I prefer) but both guns were not what you would call a joy to shoot.

The ONLY subcompact that wasn't a "kick" to shoot was the Springfield XD subcompact. That was a neat little gun, albiet slightly thicker than the ones mentioned above.

If you are recoil sensitive and want a sub, look at the XD. The Kahr will probably disappoint you as it has a little pepper on it.

Thanks for the info so far. I'm also considering the all steel Kahrs as well to avoid the kick.

The small S&W 3913's and CS9's look pretty good as well, but the thin Kahr's look best for summer IWB carry.

Thanks
Chris

definitely Kahr is the BEST choice in a small concealable pocket type pistol. They are by far easier to shoot and hide than others I'd tried. I didn't have any trouble with them being too "snappy" after shooting compact .45 1911's for years. I actually sold my PM9 that was a real mini-tack driver for something with a little more "oomph".... an all black PM40 with night sights. IT jumps a little when you shoot it but nothing you'd call "punishing" at all.

Although I can't personally confirm this, I've heard that the recoil difference between a steel Kahr and a polymer Kahr are not significantly different. Maybe the polymer's resilience soaks up some of the recoil.

My PM9 is pretty snappy, but when I stop to think about it, the recoil is amazingly light for a 9mm its size. 147-grain loads sure do take you for a ride, though!

I have both a Kahr PM9 and a PM40. FWIW I don't think either one of them has bad recoil. Watch-Six

Just wondering, are you talking about the PT 111 or the PT 111 Pro? I have a new Pro with the stainless slide, cal. 9mm. I have not shot it yet. I bought it as a ccw piece, but it still feels heavy. Any input???

I own a PM9. I don't know what kind of extended shooting you want to do with it, but I know I'll go out and shoot 100 rounds with it and walk away thinking how light the recoil is for such a small gun. --- I don't know if you've shot a Kel-Tec 3AT before, but the recoil on the PM9 is easier and more manageable than that little 380. --- It seems to be similar to the Glock 26 in recoil to me, yet lighter and smaller.
