After way too much debate for a small .45; I am sold on Taurus. I was going to buy a PT 145 but came across the 24/7 compact in .45
Does anyone have any comments on the two guns. It seems from the Taurus website, the two are VERY similar; in not the same... I have not found a gun shop that has both in stock to compare.
Any and all advise is truly appreciated.

Thanks
Be Safe.....

I prefer the PT145

My wife and I both have the PT145. Since the 24/7 first came out I've never really liked it. I know it was named the NRA semi-auto of the year a few years ago, but it just never really felt good, or sat well in my hand. However, when I first held the PT111, I really liked it. When it came time to order one, I opted for the PT145. I absolutely love it. It shoots very accurately at 15 yrds. Recoil is minimal. And, capacity is plentiful. I often carry my PT145 as my CC handgun in a leather slide behind my back. You've got to make your own decision, though. Do what feels right to you. Just my $.02. Good luck!

By the way, if you decide on a PT145 make sure it is a Millenium Pro.

24/7 all the way I own both a 40 S&W and 45 ACP 24/7 and i would say its one of the best handguns ive ever owned, and i own about 23 handguns... Plus you cant beat the price.

KF, welcome to the forum. It appears that you lurked a good bit before deciding on a Taurus and starting this thread. The 2 previous posters covered it well. One likes the PT-145 PRO version, the other likes the 24/7. My take: hold them both, then make your decision. I held them both, opted for the Mil-PRO in 45acp and do not regret it. But this will be your firearm, not ours. I have at least 1500 rounds through my Taurus and have had no problems at all whether shooting off-handed or Weavering up. Good luck to you.

Reason for PT145 PRO

I omitted mentioning that the reason I suggested the Millenium PRO, if you decide to get the PT145, is because the original PT145 (non-Pro) had frame cracking problems after being shot for a while. It's been a while since I read those particular online articles, but it seems like after a couple of thousand rounds the propensity of a frame crack was quite high. With the Pro version, Taurus rectified that problem.

i like the pt145 better it has the long trigger pull and three dot sight.

I like the 3-dot sights too. Can't stand the Heinie (figure 8) sights.

I find anything other than plain black on the rear is a distraction (you focus should be on the front sight!) so I generally paint rear dots black.

PT145 Mil-Pro came with the stupid figure eight sights. Love the pistol, hate the sights. Replaced them with Williams Firesights and the pistol is now exactly "right" for me. I've had it for a couple of years, I bought one of the first new versions with the "single action / double action" systems. Mine has about three thousand rounds through it and has never had any kind of problems eating cast reloads, or +P defense rounds. It carries easily and eleven rounds of the big 45s makes me feel comfortable. My previous CCW was the previous version of the PT145 and it was completely reliable also.

You would be better off to avoid Taurus. The money spent on a Taurus, will be a waste, save that money and a little more and get you a good 45ACP pistol. orchidhunter

I have a 24/7 pro and a PT145 non pro. I like the non pro trigger better. Got rid of the 24/7 because I like the feel of the 145 more, and it will accept the 24/7 mags, so I have compact size, with 12+1 rounds of 45. Its my favorite firearm that I own.

I have owned many Taurus pistols over the years and they have been nothing but reliable. Any firearms company is going to have a lemon here and there, but even so, they have a lifetime warranty. Taurus had a bad rep a while back, but they produce quality weapons in a reasonable price point. I trust my life to a Taurus pistol no questions asked. Never had an FTE FTF or any jamming issues, and I have owned around 12 of them, all different models.

what is the difference in the 24/ pro7, millenium pro, 24/7 OSS?
i read up the FAQ on the armedtaurus forum but could not find this info.

I was going to get the millennium pro but the showed me a 24/7 Pro and it just fit perfectly. The only reason I did not like the pt 111 is the grip was a little bit short and felt cramped.

I got mine in 9mm because I wanted the 17+1 and 9mm is much cheaper to shoot than 45. I could not be happier with my purchase.

Yes, PT145 3rd generations are SA/DA. I just got rid of mine. I went through 3 magazines and never got them to feed correctly. The magazines were the problem, not the gun, so your luck may be better. Luckily I found someone to buy mine and then went and got a Glock 19. I can also say that their customer service sucks. I was told it would be over a month to send me replacement magazines! I've heard good things about the 24/7, but I've never seen nor shot one. I will throw in a recommendation to stay away from Taurus altogether and buy something with a better track record. By the way, the Glock is sweet.

Agreed. I have a 3rd Gen Mi.Pro PT140. DA/SA I only have 400rds thru it, but have not had one FTF/FTE.

I love it.

That being said, A friend just bought a 24/7 compact. I may be tradin up.

24/7 follow up

The 24/7 c d/s is not in the catalog yet.
Does anyone know the trigger pull on the 24/7 in SA, vs DA?
I would assume the pull is the same on the 145?
any advise?

thanks

:) I just picked up a new PT145 Pro yesterday. I have been looking at this pistol for a while now and finally got a deal on it. I am anxious to get to a range now and run a load of ammo through it and get it broken in before I use it as a CCW. Does anyone have recommendation for factory ammo or even better a good homeload to use for range practice?

Have a good one!
