Just got back from the range with my new PT 1911 and I'm still smiling! I had gone to test some long gun reloads and brought the bull along to get a feel for it. I'm just mad that I didn't bring more ammo with me!

Today was just a fun shoot, and it digested every kind of ammo I could get my hands on like it was eating candy! Recoil was surprisingly tame for a 1911 style pistol (my buddy who has a couple of Smithy's even commented on how light it was) and semi-rapid hits on a 12" plate at 25 yards offhand were no problem. The 'straight 8' sights really made it easy!

I also wanted to see how it did up close and rapid fire since this will be my new bedside go-to gun. At 7 yards as fast as I could pull the trigger and dump the entire 8 round magazine I managed several center mass sub 12" groups. The whole gunfits perfectly in my hand and it enables npoa unlike most others I've shot before.

I consider this more than acceptable "minute of get-the -hell-out-of-my house" (mogthoomh) accuracy!!!

I will do some more methodical accuracy tests later, but so far my overall impression is that this is one solid pistol that is a joy to shoot! And (IMHO) for the price it is the best deal in town!

I had the same experience with mine, and am very satisfied with it. I have about 3000 rounds thru it now and it has never stuttered. Accuracy is well beyong my poor capabilites.

Only disappointment was to find that it would not cycle the Kimber .22 conversion kit I bought.

Glad to hear your trip to the range went well. I have a PT1911 also and it LOVES everything that I've fed it so far. I've have it about 6 weeks and already put 1100 rounds throught it. Enjoy it and let us know how your next range trip goes.

The straight 8 sites are the best feature of the Taurus 1911. Once you get used to them they are great. I have a set on one of my BHP.

Glad to hear the range session went well.

They really are nice. It took me two range sessions to adjust fully but once you have it down it is quick and accurate.

I love them on this gun.

Follow up....

Okay... I got to test the PT 1911 for accuracy and I was not dissapointed! I used a variety of handloads a friend had given me that included 230 grain HP, truncated cones, and Winchester bulk pack fmj's (from Wal Mart). Firing off hand at 7 yards (which is the typical distance I would most likely have to use it) and getting eaten alive by bugs, I fired one 8-round group after another. The hp's didn't do so well, and the truncated cones were okay, but the big surprise was the Wal Mart specials.... dead center almost one hole groups.... one after the other. I attached a pic of two as examples.

I did have some feeding issues with the hp's (1 out of about every 6 would catch the lip of the bullet on the feed ramp) but it fed Gold Dots like greased lightning the day before so I will chalk this up to the bullet.

Anyhow... I am MORE than pleased and while this isn't the most technical range test, it's more than enought to like this pistol even more!
