Using the Search feature, I found a lot of negatives regarding the Taurus PT-22 and the general concensus was just to buy the Beretta Bobcat.

Does anyone have any recent experience with the PT-22 (good or bad). I'd like to evaluate whether or not they are any better than they used to be.

Also, are the grips interchangeable between the two guns? My daughter (very young) really likes the pink pearl grips .

I want to buy quality rather than "pretty" but if the quality of the PT-22 has improved or if the grips she likes will fit the Bobcat, I'd like to make her happy as well. She's more likely to enjoy it if it's what she wants.

Thanks!

My daughter (very young) really likes the pink pearl grips .
So did my daughter ,a fool I bought her 1. Had lite hammer strikes and we gave up at30 rounds. Then noticed grips had also broke.
Sent back 6 weeks latter returned new grips and polish feed ramp. Lite hammer strikes also fixed . Test fired and by 16 rounds grips broke again. Washtub accurate at 7yds. Daughter no longer interested in it.
I have a 950BS and a model 20 Beretta Neither have ever been a bit of trouble accurate and relieable. Ill keepthe 25's and look for a 22 Beretta for her. Not all that much difference in money , Forget the T.

I've owned both in .22LR. Taurus I got used, traded it towards new Beretta.

Only problem I had w/Taurus was mag-related. Sometimes rim would get hooked at rear of mag. New mag fixed that. Both shot about the same w/same ammo. Better sights on Taurus than Beretta, slightly larger grip. Don't think grips will interchange (guessing). Both can give you slide bite. DA trigger about the same on both, SA trigger on Beretta nothing to get excited about. Both fun noise makers and plinkers, kinda wish I had the Beretta back but only b/c it was smaller by a smidge, not necessarily a better gun.

Bobcat is SA/DA,
Taurus is DA only (unless they changed from when I last shot one, or my forgetter is kicking in)

Bobcat is made from great metallurgy and forged. Add heat treats and all with better craftsmanship and fit and finish.

Taurus, I have no friggin' idea in regard to metallurgy - just the fit and finish was never as good , back when I messed with these.

I /we were asked to T&E and all, for UC LEOs, and some other serious folks, we broke, had problems with eight PT-22,

Officers , serious folks, chose, carried, and still use the Bobcat 21A in .22 lr. and Beretta Jetfire in 25ACP.

Taurus "had" customer service back in the day.
These all fixed, no charge and only took about 3 wks total turnaround.
Guns given to some really neat folks, once tested. Keep handy, shoot some for fun, but not for serious use.
Bunch of Vets sitting out back grinning and popping cans and fruit and balloons with kids, grandkids with these.
Just how I/we are.

As much as I love most of Taurus's pistols and I currently carry the 3rd generation PT-745. Eith that being said and I will not bash Taurus, But I bought my wife a new PT-22 about 5 years ago and right out of the box there were jams and failure to feed with almost every round. I bought it new at a local sporting goods store and took it back with 2 hours after I bought it. I thought they would tell em i have to send it to Taurus for warranty but they were nice and refunded my money. Now, I bought a new Bobcat a few days later, and after 5 years and lord only knows how many rounds. It has been a very good gun. unless Taurus improved the PT-22 in the past 5 years,, it might be better to get the Bobcat, Just my 2 cents, Be Safe, Dave

Sounds like the Taurus still isn't the way to go! I guess I'll keep my eyes out for a more reliable gun with "pretty" pink grips. Probably not going to buy one for her for a year or so, so who knows what I'll come across.

Thanks all for the feedback...
