I have another thread here asking about a DA/SA 9mm with frame mounted decocker or safety, but I may have to go with something else. So, when I went to the range Saturday I rented a Glock 26. I could hit with it pretty good, but it really made my hand sting. The trigger guard really beat my middle finger up with every shot. Anyone else have this problem?

Does the Taurus PT111 have any milder recoil? The Taurus looks like it will fit the hand a lot better, so I am thinking that may help.

Does anyone here prefer the Taurus over the Glock?

Never shot a glock, but we have the taurus pt111. The grip is longer and seems to fit the hand better. It shoots very nice, and the recoil is mild. It has a double spring guide rod, I think that helps. It is very accurate and has a good trigger. I know the glock is a great gun, but I can't see overlooking the taurus. It's a great gun also.

I have shot both...I would give a slight nod to the Glock but that is just me..

Handle both and see which one gets your motor going

Taurus

I'm not a glock fan simply because I don't like the trigger for CCW consideration and they are not known for fully supported chambers. My wife's Taurus PT111 does shoot nicely and the trigger is quite smooth. Recoil is mild and the price is probably 200 lower than the glock.

But as they say, you won't know until you have both of them on the counter to fondle and compare. Some don't like the Glock grip, slanted too much, others love it. Some pick up the Mil Pros and just fall in love with the ergonomics, I did. I suppose a Glock may have a better fit and finish for the extra money, but I'm turning into a Taurus fan, we now have two.
9mm and 45, both in Mil Pro models.

good luck,jeepmor

I love the PT111. Great for CC!
Ive got the Handall grips on, real nice fit in the hand. but without the grips the pistol seem to point better. oh, its a great point shoot sidearm imo aswell.
Recoil is low, quite easy to controll. the finish on the stainless model is very nice.
Nice thin Pistol, light, and a good capacity.
Ive put just over 2,000 rds thru mine, with NO Jams or failures of any kind. couple more boxes and she will retire as my "pillow" gun.

147Gr Winchester SilverTipHollowPoints are about the best food for her..Near Zero muzzle flash, accurate, and lowest recoil of any ammo Ive fired from her. if ya want less pennetration, the 115Gr STHPs are excellent.

The Glock is also a good choice.
if I had between the two Id go Taurus.

heres a pic,

I've shot both, and was much more accurate with the Taurus.
Its has a longer trigger pull than the Glock, which allowed me
to take it up easier, resulting in a semi-single action pull that
I was never able to achieve with the Glock. Recoil seemed
very similar to me. Keep in mind this was a Glock 36 vs a PT-745 Pro.

Also, after field stripping, the Glock seemed weaker in construction
than the Taurus. But, I'm no gun smith so I could be mistaken.

The Glock is easier to field strip and has a lighter/shorter trigger
pull. I've also mainly heard good things about their quality. No
nothing about the company or their warranty policies.

I suggest shooting and field stripping both, and decide for
yourself.

Good luck.

I've owned several Glocks and Tauruses. Every Glock I ever owned was 100% dependable right out of the box. I can't say that about the Tauruses.

I owned an early PT111, and currently own a couple of G26's. My PT111 broke within 60 rounds. After a nice long wait, it was returned by Taurus, and worked pretty well, but was not 100%. The Glocks are my choice, and the Taurus PT 111 helped me decide.;) I forgot to mention, I didn't really notice a difference in recoil. They are about the same in my opinion.

No comparison, the Glock is the much better gun. recoil is about the same, but quality control and 100% reliability are the issues, and absolutely nothing can compare to the glocks. I work at a firearms shop and almost every pt111 I have seen has had issues. before the flames start, I realize there are many out there that work great, what I said was that of the ones I HAVE SEEN, and most have required a trip back to the factory. In my book that is simply not good enough. The new PRO model may be a different story, gosh I hope so. time will tell.

It would seem to make sense that you'd only see the PT111's that have issues--if they didn't, the owners probably wouldn't bring them back.

I think the Millennium Pro model solved several of the problems of the first generation, from what I've read. I have a PT111 (Pro) and a PT145 (Pro) and they've both been perfectly fine. I trust them for CCW. Of course, those are mine, and one point of data does not make a trend.

On the other hand, Glocks have an unassailable reputation.

Your point makes sense about the more narrow population of guns that I see, however I am also including guns that people use on the range and are not there to trade or have fixed.

We've owned the PT111 Pro for six months now and have had zero problems with it. The recoil is as others have pointed out...easily managed. Its also a good model to use as your CCW.

We have added a rubber grip overlay for comfort, but that is just personal preference. (Hopefully they will begin making the Millenium models with the 24/7 grips soon)

You've got two quality pistols on your plate btw.

I've got another 111Pro on order and am looking forward to shooting it as well. It seems as though the current one keeps finding its way into my wife's shooting bag :)

I carried a Glock 26 for 8 years, but was never particularly fond of it - dumped it last year for a Walther P99 compact w/ the A/S trigger - I much prefer this gun. The no longer import them and only sell the newer QA trigger, but you can still dig up a few. CDNN has some in stock. Great gun!

Considering my inconsistent history w/ Tauri products and my like of the 9mm Glocks, I'd go w/ the G26
But really, get the one that works best in your hands....because it will be you that will be using it ;)

I've owned/shot both guns in the search for a good carry gun for my fiance. We got the Taurus first, note that it wasn't the Pro series. The gun was reliable, but it's accuracy was only "combat" good. Past 10-12 yards it was difficult to get decent groups with it free hand. From bench it was difficul o keep it on a B27 target at 25 yards. This wasn't helped by the fact the trigger was horrible.

The glock was consistant out to 50 yards freehand with a much better trigger.

We go rid of the Taurus due more to the fact that her thumb hit the magazine release on the Taurus when firing. I couldn't tell a difference, but she said the recoil was more mild out of the glock.

Later on we traded the glock 26 off for a Kahr PM9 that she just loves.

The glock is a better gun, period. It'll last longer, and there are a LOT fewer problems with glocks than Taurus guns. The torture tests that some people have put glocks thru and had them still run is simply amazing. I too work in a gunshop, and have for the last several years. I've NEVER seen a glock with a problem, but I've had several Taurus guns come back. Even a few pros. The general rule of thumb for CCW is: Shoot the hell out of it, take a good training course and see if the gun holds up. If it does, keep it, practice and ignore the gunstore commandos on their *insert favorite brand here* crusade :)

If the trigger guard is smacking your middle finger, you need to fix your grip. Odds are you're gripping the gun pretty low on the grip and so lightly that it's slipping while you shoot.

As a PT111 Mil/pro owner I can say I have never had a 9mm. round including +P, ever sting the hand and I like the grip. Mine has several thousand rounds through it and nary a bobble. Will recommend the PT111 Mil/pro. The one question is this the best fit and function for you of all the makes and models out there? Try www.unitedforums.com and click on the Taurus Forum. Initiate a search for threads dealing with the PT111 Mil/pro and browse current threads. One caveat. Disregard threads started by trolls. There were a few more back in ancient history and less there know for the time being. Ask if nothing else. My hands are small and this pistol fits just right. The price was fine also. Lower than other makes or models of similar demensions.
