I recently aquired a PT111 and field stripped for the first time. Disassembly was not problem but during reassembly the slide/barrel are jamed to far back. At the resitng position the slide and barrel are about an inch too far back. Now I can't remove the slide from the frame. I have read the posts on how to propely assemble but how do I get the slide off so I can try it again?

I am having trouble visualizing what you are talking about. Picture?

I own the Pro version and am confused by what you are saying exactly, so bare with me for my tips and opinions. Can you lock the slide to take the pin out? If the pin is out, can you pull the trigger and remove the slide?

Tip for reassembly if you do get it off.. Lean the front of the gun forward at a 45ish degree angle so that the barrel stays forward when you put the pin back. I had an issue where I had the hammer end down and the pin didn't catch the barrel. It went in front of the barrel.

I would love to help you if you could possibly take a picture so I can see what you are saying.

faitmaker has it right. more than likely it is the pin which is causing the issue for you. i was able to replicate your exact issue with my wife's pistol, then remove the pin and re-insert it after tilting the weapon forward.

courtslu ~ I experienced the same issue on my PT145. I put the slide on without the barrel and spring in order to work the slide-to-frame lube. I pressed the trigger at some point, and 'click." Locked. I mean locked tight.

I'm new to shooting, so I can't explain the technical aspect of what occured, but it is a common thing to do with PT111, PT140, and PT 145's as I had seen over at TaurusArmed.net. I never did see a fix for it, though.

I ended up taking it to the local gun smith who inserted a screwdriver through the magazine well into the area under the slide. A small tap with his mallet, and it broke free.

Sorry I can't be of more help.
