Taurus PT99AF...hmmmm...

The rear sight blade in the PT99 sight breaks.
Taurus does not have replacements any more.
I searched for a while and was never able to find one. Taurus sold me the 92 fixed sight which they said would work.
It doesn't....
Took it to my gunsmith to see if he could make it work, no go. He ended up fitting a spare fixed sight off an M+P he had. (gave me the sight, charged to fit it, nice of him to give me the sight)
Good gun, happy with it, 10000+ rounds no issue other than the rear sight blade.
Seemed to feed and fire everything I fed it.

Well that sucks. I thought the rear adjustable sight gave it the edge over the 92FS I had in the Air Force. (Well, that and the safety on the frame, of course.) I feel like every gun should have an adjustable sight.

The slide cut in the PT99 appears to be different than a 92 so since a factory Fixed 92 wouldn't work I figured the aftermarket 92 wouldn't either.
To bad I didn't buy PT92 then I could have just changed the rear.
Sort of a PITA that Taurus does not stock the part anymore, but they stopped making the PT99 sometime ago.

Maybe fine a nice PT92 and change the rear.
I do like the fact that the safety is in the right place. (or at least the right place IMO)

The rear sight on my PT99 wasn't particularly delicate, but an ex of mine slammed it purposely against the tailgate of my old steel pickup truck and damaged the slide and rear sight. (Hint: Never go shooting with an ex who might be holding a grudge.)

Taurus kindly sold me a slide assembly complete with adjustable sight for "dealer price" of $100-something... maybe $130-something, IIRC. That was maybe a little less than ten years ago.

I don't feel that the rear sights on my PT99 are inherently more delicate than adjustable sights similar semi-auto pistols I have. Apparently you are up the creek without a paddle if you do break them, though. Maybe if you were patient and careful you could file down a larger fixed sight to fit, or make one out of a piece of metal that was about the right size, but it would be a PITA and take a lot of filing.

My problem wasn't the sight per say, it was the metal sight blade with the notch cut in it.
I sure a good machinist could have made a replacement but $$ for a small flat piece of steel with a notch cut in it.
The sight itself was fine....
