Hi guys! Strolled in the local shop yesterday and found a NIB Taurus .44mag snubbie with a 2.5" barrel. Dealer said it is a TALO special. He wants almost $500. What do you know about this? Is it new, old stock, great, a failure, anything? BTW, I plan to use .44spl. in it. Is this a better bet than the new Charter Bulldogs? I heard even the new Charters won't feed WW silvertip .44spl.

Any light on this gun would be helpful!!! Thank you!!!
Dave

I don't know what TALO is but if it is the titanium I'd avoid it. I came into a titanium .44 special last year that locked up at the range with the first round. Locked up tight. Couldn't pull the trigger. Couldn't move the hammer and couldn't open the cylinder. FInally, after messing with it for about 5 minutes, I got the cylinder open.

I could find no reason on the cartridges or with the gun to lock up. After I opened it, the cylinder spun properly and the hammer/trigger worked. But I didn't shoot it again. I went and traded it.

Get the real thing, an all steel .44 or at least a Mountain Gun.

Thanks, Greg, but I don't believe this one is Titanium. The box and paperwork just said stainless steel.

Check on that TALO, sounds like a faint hint at TItanium AlLOy.

Might be ok with 44 specials. Curious about a revolver not feeding silvertips though.

My little brother had a Taurus snub of sorts, in 44 special, I think it was 5 shot, had the little 32mag too.Don't know what they were made of. They both worked just fine and dandy. I'm not too wild about Titanium anything, even if I could afford it. Same with theyre Scantlium.

Never heard of a revolver not "feeding". I have had half a dozen Bulldogs and they would shoot anything that you put into the cylinder including WW Silvertips. This gun will be a lot bigger and bulkier than the Charter Arms Bulldog.

Hi Jim.....yep, that's what I'm looking at! You think $500 is an ok price?:what:

On the GunBoards Forum, a member warned me that his Charter would not fire the WW silvertips, that it jammed after one shot. Once he cleared the cylinder, the gun worked fine after that...NOT using the WWST's. I never used the WWST's in my vintage Charter Bulldog 3", so I could only take his word for it. I did find it hard to fathom myself though.

The Taurus is 30oz., the Charters boast 22oz. The Taurus is 7" high, the Charter about 6". They both have a 5-round cylinder so would the Taurus be that much heavier/bigger do you think? It would be cool to have an option to shoot .44mag, but I'll probably carry it with .44spl. because with my aging eyes, I can't rely on the one-shot-stop anymore.:(

Thoughts? (Thanks everyone!!!!!!!)

Dave

Dave, Taurus has brought out the model 445 .44 special.
Its a touch smaller and lighter than the one you looked at.
Google it.
They are goof revolvers.
We have 2, 1 blued and 1 stainless.
They get carried often and shoot very well.
I am a big guy, and even pocket carry them.
I think they would be a better choice if you are going to use it for a .44 spl anyway.

Jim

Thanks, Jim. I appreciate the comments. The new Taurus' are Titanium though and only 1.5oz. lighter than this one? What I could find states 28.5oz. and the Talo is 30oz. Seems some here aren't well pleased with Titanium...your thoughts/experience?

TY! Dave:)

PS......the gun is gone!!! I am still looking for one so far though, unless I can be swayed to something else.

I really like the Ti Taurus...mine shoots fine with the 44 mags but I keep it loaded with Hornady's 180 gr. 44 Special XTP HP and its very accurate. One other plus is I can load it with CCI shotshells for snakes and small game and carry it all day...no problemo...

It is a 2 inch fixed sight version of the Tracker. Only made for a short time, IIRC. I had a 4 inch Tracker and it worked OK. The grips tame the recoil somewhat. Cant say about the price. Would make a nice trail gun.
