Taurus TH45 Just Released

How's it shoot? How's the trigger?
I initially had trouble with the slide ejecting the spent cartridge case and not picking up a new round. Contacted Taurus and they replied right away that I could return it for repair prepaid label would be sent. I had been firing 230 Grain FMJ, so I ran some 185 Remington Golden Saber through it and it worked fine. I went back to 230 Grain FMJ and it ran perfectly for 100 rounds. I let it sit overnight with out cleaning and repeated the FMJ for four magazines. Perfect. I believe it just needed a break in. The magazine release is still very heavy with a fully loaded magazine, not with a partial magazine or empty. The Gun is accurate and I think the grip is great, it handles recoil great. The SA trigger has a long travel and then a pretty crisp break. DA was scratchy, but it smoothed out after all those rounds through it. I wish they had magazines available, as I like to carry at least three.

heavy magazine release is an asset. True story.. was running at the park about 4am one morning and came right up on a fully loaded shield 9mm magazine. Lesson to be learned?... this is why you always carry at least one spare mag LOL. Hopefully the owner didnt have to use it before he noticed.

Make sure you clean that Taurus if you have not. taurus coats their pistols with a preservative most of the time and its a little sticky. Most manufacturers do. I dont even testfire a new pistol without getting all that gunk off and useing a good lube (ballistol for me). If the magazine wasnt keeping up with the cycle it mag just be a tight recoil spring that need to break in. If had it happen when tuning a few times with different power recoil springs. I locked the slide back for a couple days and let the recoil spring take a set to remedy it. Other than than it could have been magazine related. Basic stuff there. Clean the preservative out of the magazine internals and check the follower to see if its catching anywhere. Those are Mecgars though which is why I have doubts its the magazine. If its hanging up during a feed the first area I check is for a tight extractor. Shooting it a bunch will break in most of the issues. If it becomes chronic again do a detailed cleaning and inspect the parts for wear. I have never sent a firearm back to the manufacturer in my life for repair or tuning and I buy a lot of Junk. Its all part of learning your firearms. Lots of good people on the internet to aid you. Im not sure how open Taurus is anymore but most companies (especially smaller American ones) will let you talk to a tech and they are normally very easy to ask questions on how they remedy any problems. A few times I have even talked to the actual designer of the firearm which often turns into a long discussion about firearms design. Lots of bad apples in the industry but there are also a lot of good ones.

Taurus bashing? 35 years ago a buddy talked me out of buying a "piece of junk" Taurus 92 so I bucked up and bought my Beretta 92 INOX instead. I have read so much Taurus bashing over the years since then I have always been afraid to buy one.
Seen lots of berettas fail in more ways than one. Same with smiths, glocks, etc.

Well ... let people bash them if they want (who cares). It keeps the prices down for those who know better. I cant say all Taurus's offereings have been great pistols but there have been quite a few that stayed under the radar. There "Good stuff" gives the buyer a lot for the price. TH series is a better firearm than any of the Millenium based designs (G2,G3 etc) IMO but the 10mm is going to need to prove itself. 45acp should be just fine. They have been around in previous generations for a long time. If things were going to break it would be on the 40S&Ws but I dont recall them ever having serious design problems. Full power 10mm may push the limits of the TH or it may not. We will see if Taurus did their homework.

QC problems are across the board now with manufacturers for the most part so that can basically happen with any of them. The PT92 was always a fine handgun. A lot Beretta "brand" loyalists just got a little snooty at times. Beretta is my favorite foreign manufacturer by a mile but I prefer the Taurus PT92 over the standard Beretta 92fs. I own both but actually CCW the Taurus when I go with that design. To me its just a frame mounted safety Beretta.

I wouldnt have any problems carrying a TH once I vetted my particular pistol. They offer a lot of value and, even though they are inexpensive. are well built pistols in the 9mm and 40S&W. Most of Taurus's problems stem from them screwing around with the Millennium series.

Here is an auction with the last generation of the TH45 series.. The PT845. Its not my auction I am just putting it here for reference to those that dont know the design and think the TH45 is a "new thing". There are not an major differences between the two generations.

The Original inspiration from the current TH series came from these. Quite a few changes when they went from alloy frames to polymer mainly in the lower half obviously but you can see how Taurus progressed the design through the many years since its introduction in the early 1990s. The 900 series were always well regarded. I cant remember them ever having major issues. Here is the PT945. These were offered in 9mm, 40, 357sig, 38 super, and 45acp. Kind of a PT92 lower merged with a Sig style upper. They have a little bit of a following.

I wouldnt have any reservations about these new TH generations in 9/40/45 chamberings and I never buy new pistols due to manufacturers useing consumers as beta testers these days. The 10mm I would give it a little time to see what people are experiencing with full power 10mm. I suspect Taurus will make things right if they screw up these 10mms though so at worst people will have to send them back to the factory. Im not going to bash them if the 10mm has trouble being this is their first real attempt at the cartridge in their own design. Be nice if they offered them in 357sig and 38super again. Im glad to see Taurus advancing this design as its the best they have come up with on their own IMO. The PT92 series is basically just a Beretta design. Im not sure how successful it will be because Americans are addicted to striker fired pistols but the TH series is in LE use throughout South America last I checked along with the good ole PT92. Taurus got popular here in the 80s/90s due to the Beretta and various revolvers but they have been making firearms for close to 100 years now. I always encourage people to buy from American manufacturers but at least Taurus doesnt overcharge the consumer. QC and Customer service issues aside they make solid firearms. Any firearms enthusiast that roots for companies to fail is not much of a firearms enthusiast at all. Hold them accountable and let grievances known but dont just bash a company because you prefer another "brand". That kind of nonsense leads to monopolies and stagnant industries wich is counterproductive to the firearms ownership community.

Gosh, we've got some amazingly experienced and knowledgeable folks hereabout, saying they've seen lots of Berettas and Smiths and Glock fail in more ways than one (sadly, in the thread, none yet offer forth examples or documentation). I must be fairly clueless, because I've been around firearms for many, many years, and just haven't seen more'n a few modern handguns "fail." Not talking the occasional malfunction, but rather, catastrophic failures such as major parts breakage, ka-booms, repeated FTF/FTE/FTRB on the same string of fire, guns getting locked up (squibs) and otherwise rendered inoperational, etc.

Guess it's the reason I approach any thread even mentioning Taurus products with trepidation. I've owned several excellent Taurus handguns (all purchased before the internet informed me Taurus bad), a couple not so great, but not awful. Geez, for many years I was blissfully unaware and loved my Taurus PT-92, PT-99, M-82, M-85, M-94. Been to Brazil, great food, beautiful women, to be honest, beaches didn't live up to expectations. But I know that Taurus sells an incredible amount of handguns, and a lot of my officers (before I retired) bought them because they didn't want to pay the higher prices for Glocks and SIGs, etc., but used them for off-duty carry and home defense. I don't think I heard anything negative about the Taurus handguns -- except on the internet.

This isn't an overwhelming great reason to buy a Taurus. I have nothing against Taurus, I have never owned one. I have owned POS firearms and found that often bad reputations have been properly earned. I won't trash talk Taurus, I have no qualified point of reference to do so.

My bad. Again what I meant to say, and what I type and then someone else’s interpretation can get muddled.

Anything that is mechanical will eventually break down when pushed hard enough was my point I guess.

I finally got the chance to handle the TH45.
It is a very ambidextrous pistol. And it felt good in the hand. With a loaded magazine I think it will still feel light.

I want to add a 45 to my collection. The only 45 I currently have a XDM Compact. I love it!!!! It's my favorite semiautomatic pistol.

Maybe a Taurus TH45?
THR Friends how do you like yours now???

Next up… Threaded Barrel! +3 mags! Optic Cut.

Wait I live in Washington, Evil Mid- 90’s features

The two furnished Mecgar magazines were defective, the gun is fine. After two trips back to Taurus with them returning the gun and stating "No Problem", I bought two new magazines from Tombstone Tactical and haven't had a malfunction yet. The thing is I insisted that I though the magazines were at fault from the beginning and Taurus ignored that and used their own magazines which proved nothing. Anyway, the gun is accurate and now reliable and handles .45 recoil very well. I'm glad I bought it. I'll also not B Taurus.jpg e this is the FIRST time I've had to send a Taurus back and I've owned Taurus guns since 1986. G3 Taurus.JPG 2 XTX22.jpg IMG_1370.JPG
