I currently own a Taurus Tracker 45 ACP. However, I have a yearning for a Ruger Blackhawk 45ACP/45 Colt convertible (or other single action revolver). I'm just debating the pros and cons of trading in the Tracker for a Blackhawk

Tracker
Pros:
  • Double action and single action
  • stellar clips

Cons:
  • 5 shots
  • has a built in lock
  • Really large
  • limited on reloads due to max pressure listed in manual

Blackhawk
Pros:
  • Classic cowboy look
  • Can be changed out to fire 45 colt
  • Can take really high pressure loads

Cons:
  • Slower to load
  • single action only
  • Will probably have to spend more money to get pistol

Does anybody have anything to add to my list of pros and cons?

I don’t have any Taurus revolvers. I do have a bunch of Ruger Blackhawks in .45 Colt with .45 ACP cylinders. I really like them. I also have a S&W Model 25-2 and 625-8JM in .45 ACP. I understand your concern.
First, consider holding on to the Taurus if you like it. Save your money for what you want. If you don’t like it, then by all means, consider getting rid of it.
The single action Blackhawk is quite different from a double action anything. If you want to get good with a single action, consider participating in cowboy action shooting. That will force you to get better and learn techniques for quickly firing a single action revolver. The basics are to use the thumb of the weak hand to cock the revolver so you don’t break your grip every shot.

That Ruger will outlast us all.

Not sure if the current production ones have proper diameter chamber throats (I had my 1996 4 5/8" gun reamed to a uniform .4525) but it is one of my favorite revolvers. Lots of fun, shoots like a house afire, and of course will hold just about any sane load. Probably the gun I should have owned forty plus years ago when I started out. Wouldn't have "needed" any others.

The revolvers are sort of apples and oranges. Depends on what you want the gun for. The DA is a better defense revolver, the SA is the better outdoor gun. I don't have a convertible, but don't really need it since I handload for my blackhawks and everything else I own.

You can't beat a Blackhawk. I just bought one, in fact I picked it up today. But my shooting buddy has one and I've shot it quite a bit.

You'll notice in loading manuals, that they have loads that are marked, "For Rugers only". That's a testament to how strong they are.
