Went to sightinfive rifles Friday. 39 marlin with receiver sight and bead front, TC 22lr carbine with 4X TC scope, ruger 77-22mag with a 4-12 scope, a 10-22 target ( blue) with V hammer, buffer, tac barrel mount, etc and a 6-24 varmint scope, and finally, a cz 455 with a 6-24 scope. What gave the best groups out of this mix? I used Fed premium, eley club, wolf match extra, s&b club, federal auto tech and cci minimag hps. 50yard results gave the normal small clusters with ll but the TC and minimags gave me the best overall group.....1/4" one hole five shot group. At 100 I got 1 1/2 out of the cz, 3/4 out of the 77 Maggie, and nothing to shout about from the rest.
39 marlin....need a front sight hood as i couldn't see clearly enough to turn in anything reportable (1945 39 with cut rifling, a good trigger and my 67 year old eyes).
Makes me wonder if I'm wasting my time and money in the local benchrest 22 matches with dedicated target guns/ ammo.
