Hi all,
I am just checking to see if there is any interest in service rifle aperture type sights for the Ruger 10/22. We have been working on a design that allows the use of AR apertures and front post. This gives the 10/22 the same sight picture and adjustability as you would get with the AR15/M16A1.

We have complete the design and testing, tooling is finished and we will have the sights ready by mid January.
Thanks,
Larry

Interesting.

Combine that with a drop-in AR-15 type stock and you could have a neat sub-caliber trainer.

Hmmmm.

Honking Big Front Sight

Hi Larry,

Let me give you a cosmetic perspective. I've considered and even bought a couple of aperature sights for my 10/22. My most recent one was an XS.

What has always stopped me was that I thought the enlarged front sight blade threw the cosmetics of the gun off. I know its a function of the geometry, but that honking front blade just looks 'off' to me.

Still though, nice back end and best of luck,

John

Or you could just get a drop-in .22 conversion kit for your AR.

I actually really like the looks of the rear sight. I agree that the front is kinda odd looking. I think that if you could clean that up a bit that you would have a pretty awesome product.

I'd be interested, but only if there was a front sight offered as well, one that could be attached via screws since I have a sightless heavy barrel.

Chris

The sighting picture close to the muzzle does over exagerate the the size of the front sight tower. Here are a couple views of the rifle that keep thing a little more in perspective.

Chris, we have considered offering a heavy barrel dovetailed to accept out sight tower. Perhaps a screw on version would be easier for existing rifles with heavy barrels. What kind of barrel do you have?

I have a Green Mtn fluted barrel. It has an inch or so of smooth surface at the muzzle end though. I've been considering iron sights since a scope is overkill for the distances I generally shoot. I can get a gunsmith to drill/tap the barrel pretty cheaply.

Chris

That front sight is certainly not a thing of beauty, but I might be interested in these sights if they are not too expensive. I would be more excited about a low profile version.

I have the P.O.S. Williams Firesight set on my 10/22 right now. I hate the microscopic front sight and the rear sight is really cheesy and difficult to adjust with any precision.

Off to a great start!

Is it impossible to make the rear low enough to work with the factory front sights though?

Rob,
You have hit the nail on the head with your question. In order to fit the AR apertures and the mechanism involved with stabilizing the apertures the sighting plane has to raised. We moved the sight as far back as we could and kept everything as low as possible. It looks like Williams and XS also had to raise the sighting plane with their sights. All in all I think we have keep everything as low as possible. This extra height also allows just enough rooom for the detent adjustable front posts from the AR to be used in the front tower. One of the things that wanted to keep was the protective ears around the front post, this gives a little higher profile, but I believe it is worth it. It is also nice to have options for the apertures and post, like ghost rings and National Match or Tritium.

You could also get a clamp on sight base as used on AR15 based "space guns" these are often made to be compatable with AR15 apertures and would go nicely with the above pictured rear sight (and probably look better too).

Thanks..!

Hi all,
I just wanted to be sure to thank you all for your coments. I appreciate you taking the time give your thoughts. Who better to ask than a fellow enthusist.

Larry

I've hoping someone will come up with some M1 carbine-type sights for it. This could be as close as we are going to get.

Howdy
Eagle industries (makes hi-cap 10/22 mags)

Has a set of sights that is a M1 carbine rear site, with a HK style hooded front sight replacement. Have a set on my 10/22 and they are really fun. Also the peep is easier for us older bifocal wareing people.

What price will this new set of sights be going for ?

I'd surely be interested. I'm interested in converting my 10/22 to a sort of low-powered/high-powered trainer. I figure with an aperature sight similar to that on my Garand, along with a M1907 sling, I could work on my positions.

In the quest to get something workable, I tried one of thos Eagle Zephyr sights, but it was a real piece of junk in regards to quality and adjustability. I have a Williams WGRS on the way, now.

If it was affordable enough, I'd go for one.

wonder if it uses those itty-bitty screw holes in the receiver or needs some beefier ones.

We will be offering two models, the TSR100 that has a flip, dual aperture like the AR15/M16A1. This is windage adjustable at the rear sight with elevation done on the AR type front post. The TSR200 gets an elevation adjustable aperture making it windage and elevation adjustable at the back sight. It also gets the AR type front post. The apertures and posts are compatible with the AR15/M16 so there are many great options available to the shooter.
Tenative prices are $55.00 for the TSR100
$69.00 for the TSR200.
These prices are a little higher than the Zepher or Williams, but you are getting a rugged service rifle type sight system.

I'm looking forward to this, law27. I tried to find click adjustable peep sights a while back and came up empty. The Williams sights have been a disappointment for me since the fiber optic inserts are not properly secured and have fallen out.

$69.00 is a good price for front, and rear sight.

Do you have any plan for a bull-barrel? A barrel-band, perhaps?

BTW, I experiment with AR's removeable sight, gas-block, and flip-front sight. The combination works fine, but very expensive (I have all the parts, for other project, so it was not bad.)

I'll get one for sure.

I may have to get a 10/22 for this. I really had no interest in that rifle before, having acquired a CZ-452 first.

Hi Rob,
It is looking like the sights will be available towards the latter part of February. We are excited about how they work on the Ruger 10/22. The sights give the 10/22 a superb service rifle sight picture. As with our other sights for the SKS, we want to bring a quality product to market at a fair price. Thanks again for the interest.
Larry

Looks like I am going to have to try these out, I bought the 10/22 CRR with hi viz sights and at 100 yds they suck. Great for quick shots at 50 or less though.
