Tell me about CZ

Thanks for all the input! I will make sure to handle one and shoot one if possible. Maybe eventually I can have both and compare for myself :) If y'all want to continue the discussion feel free, but at least I know they are worth a serious look.

TeachMe,

If you like the CZ, I have one for sale listed on the THR trade board. It is a CZ 75B 9mm Compact, nice nickel plating job, 2 14 round clips. I was asking $330.

I can shoot it better than my XD40 :scrutiny:

CZ's can be addictive

Hi, Teach, I started with one cz ( a 75b) and now I have five! I'm not a fan of the way the glock trigger feels. The cz trigger is more traditional. On the 75b the frame is steel so it is heavier and soaks up the recoil more but it is harder to carry. However a buddy of mine couldn't hit anything with my cz but did fine with a glock, go figure.
I think comparing the two is almost an apples to oranges sort of thing. Try them first and you will find what's right for you.

cz's

i have a cz75 compact thats a real pleasure to shoot, very accurate, hardly any recoil (9mm) steel construction makes it a great shooter, also then bought the rami in 9mm and again hit the jackpot in sofar as reliability and fit, true ur pinky will curl under the mag, but u can use the full size 75 mag in it, plus buy a hicap with sleeve and gives the perfect addition to the grip! got them both new, all the paper work and such with 2 tens in the rami and a ten and 15 rd in the compact, all for under $400.00 each!!

Hi Teachme,

I have the P01 and agree with all the positives sated here. Additionally, it has a rail, if you want to mount a light or laser. My gunsmith asked to shoot it,as he had never fired one before. He put 10 rounds into a1" group at 7 yards the first time he picked it up. What a pistol!

Armoredman, are those Hakan Pek grips? They are beautiful. My sons surprised me with grips something like those last Christmas. Nice boys.

Be Well,

Scarface

Don't listen to the nay sayers about unfinished internals, lousy triggers, cheap exterior finish and so on. I have a 75B and for the $350 it cost brand new, I love it!

It won't replace my '70 series Colt's, but for a working gun I doubt it can be beat.

Accuracy - better than ANY semi-auto I've ever fired

Reliability - excellent (2000 rounds/no problems)

Ergonomics - superior to all but maybe the Browning (tied)

Finish - durable polycoat in flat black (theyoffer several other types too)

Trigger - DA as good or better than the vaunted SiG, SA excellent for a combat handgun

As for the poster who sang the praises of the S&W autos over the CZ...yeah right!

i have a CZ 75bd in 9mm and a CZ40b in .40..they have been great handguns for the money i paid for them new..reliably boring, nice fit for me and easy on the wallet. what more can i ask for..i have them stock for now, but would consider a nice set of custom grips.

Consider a K9

I am looking to get a 9mm .... Any useful input is greatly appreciated.
The criteria are: 1) 9mm; 2) Any input.

Given that, I'll suggest that you broaden your range of options.

With all due respect to the CZ et al, I humbly suggest that you look at a Kahr K9.

IMO, one of the finest 9 mm made on Earth, at least as good as CZ
(says a guy who just bought one of the finest .22LR rifles, the CZ 452).

Ignore the P9. Go straight to the K9. Do not pass 'go'. Do not collect $200.

+1 for CZ

I have three CZs - The 75B, the PCR, and the RAMI + the Kadet Conversion kit. I have been 100% happy with all of them and have acquired them all at better prices than Glocks.

No matter what anyone here says, you need to go to a range and try out a Glock and a CZ or at least a similar type of DA/SA handgun. Glocks and CZs feel nothing alike and are totally different platforms.

For me, if I were to ever buy a Glock, it would have to be an amazing price. I will regret it later though, like I've regretted pretty much all my non CZ handgun purchases.

kinda looks like a Sig...what's it cost?
I'm not sure which one you're asking about, but since you posted immediately after me, I'll make an assumption. Just ignore this if the question wasn't to me.

The K9 was $520 a few months ago. That's an "elite", so they cost a couple cents more than a standard model. But they've now jumped in price. (I bought it because it was the only K9 in the store, and by then, ordering a new one, even a standard, was going to be more expensive.)

One thing: K9's are DAO. I wanted that. I like the consistency every pull is the same.

Teach me may have good reasons for only considering the two that he mentioned originally. Maybe he's looked at all the others and ruled them out.

If not, then I recommend at least considering a K9. They've gotten excellent reviews, including a number of threads on THR.

I liked it for all those reasons, plus it just fit my hand like a glove, better than anything else I picked up. (Then again, I didn't try a CZ; my store had none.)

Not long ago, I was looking for a quality, yet affordable, handgun. I had checked out Sig, Glock, XD, etc and each had their highs and lows. Then, a buddy at work asked me if I had thought about a CZ. As it turned out, I was looking at CZ's website and told him so.

The next day, my friend came in at told me he had found something I just had to see. It was a CZ 75B 9mm in satin nickel. It had some ugly wood grips, a porter barrel, two high cap magazines, and a stainless steel locking case for $325. I jumped on it, putting it on layaway right then and there, then came back the next payday and took it home. NO firearm had ever felt so great.

First, I like a heavy pistol. I like to keep recoil to a minimum and the weight sure helps with that. That with the porting helps.

Second, the ergonomics felt like the grip was made for just me. I honestly had no idea that a gun could feel that good in my hand.

Third, the only aftermarket parts I wanted was some new grips, and those are plentiful. Now I just have to decide what I want ;)

I can't recommend CZ enough!

Tom

I own a CZ-75BD 9mm, a CZ-75B in .40S&W and a satin nickel finish,a CZ PCR 9mm, and a CZ-83 .380 ACP with satin nickel finish. All have been 100% with any ammo I've fed them. I had a .40 S&W RAMI that wouldn't feed WWB reliably, but a ramp polish fixed it. The rest have been perfect for 1000's of rounds. My -75BD 9mm is the most accurate 9mm I have ever shot.
Try a Glock. If they work for you, they are good pistols. They just don't work for me. Good luck.

P.S. The trigger on the CZ will get better with use. The trigger on the Glock will still stink no matter how much you shoot it. How could such a smart group of engineers design such a good pistol with such a P.O.S. for a trigger?

My PCR is my favorite handgun. Accuracy beats all the others, never missed a lick, and it looks good and feels great in the hand. Not so easy to break down as my XD and Makarov but not really a problem.

Don't buy a CZ, steer clear. They are the biggest peices of crap on the planet.

:uhoh:
Come on guys, we really don't want more people buying them or prices will go up to match the quality. At the main store in the area that stocks them I've looked at them the other day for the first time in about a year and prices seem to be a good $30-100 (depending upon the model) over what they were when I last looked. Heck, a blued CZ 75B was only about $20-30 less than an FN HP. People are catching on to what great guns CZs are and we have to stall this

Is there a reason you're comparing the G19 to the larger CZ 85, and not one of the compact models? I think the G19 vs. CZ P-01 would be a better comparison.

I've got a P-01, 40P, and 40B and they're all fantastic. Well, the P-01 and the 40P are fantastic, I've never fired the 40B. The P-01 is the gun that typically goes everywhere with me while my more expensive (yet less reliable) guns sit in the safe.

I've never owned a Glock, but I've shot the 17, 23, 23C, 27, and 30. They're all great guns, but I just can't deal with that crappy trigger. If I wanted a trigger like that, I'd buy a Lorcin 9mm and save myself about $400. :barf:
